Is this wrong of us?

Original post by MikeandJess

Fh's parents aren't contributing to this wedding in the slightest bit, in fact, they've been downright rude when we try to get them involved in the planning process, not even paying, we're not the type to stand there with our hands out. Now that we're looking at invitations, we plan on putting my parents names in the invitation but not mentioning Fh's parents at all (i.e Mr & Mrs Doe invite you to the marriage of their daughter to bla bla bla). Is it wrong to not put them on the invitation at all?

i think it's fine, a lot of people do it that way whether there is an 'issue' with the in-laws or not

I would just put their names but do it in a way like 'son of blah blah'

In the long run you don't want this to bite you in the a$$. Plus this will give people something to talk about and the last thing you need right now is drama. I know your madd and upset with them but reality is that they are your IL's. Just my opinion.

That's what I did. I didn't want to start any problems by not typing a few names on a piece of paper. Noone reads into the invites that closely to say, Oh they must have contributed bc their on the invite. Do whatever will cause less problems. JMO. Sorry you even have to worry about this!

my invite says Lindsay and Jason together with their parents...we did that bc we thought all the parents names were too wordy and our invite isnt that big...u can always do that

Is it ok to warn the other guests not to stare directly into FIL's eyes or they may turn into stone?

hey! if you put that on the invitation, you'd be including their names and it would all work out!

I would say do what you feel is right.

My in laws arent contributing and FFIL (ugh.) might not even show up! But out of respect, we're adding the names. I just dont want to deal with more drama. At first it really bothered me, but i cant waste my time over it, so i just said it was ok to add their names.

Re: Is this wrong of us?

leaving FH parents out to be spiteful isn't a pleasant thought and could carry repercussions for years to come.

No one at your reception will give a squat if they are mentioned as FH parents.

I get where you are coming from, I have a tacky FMIL..........sometimes I have to step outside of myself and look in to be sure I am doing the right thing and not doing something just to prove a point or how I feel about FMIL.

You have to tell them to blow you nicely. THey are your inlaws...lol

Hmm, well what if I smile when I say it?

'blow me, please ' would actually be the polite response.

Re: Is this wrong of us?

i think we are doing 'son of Ms. Mother Lastname' (dad is completely out of the pic)

my 'rents are footing almost the entire bill, and we are picking up the leftover stuff.
FMIL believes she did her part by throwing us a [very nice, catered] backyard engagement party with 2 of FH's uncles.
I would leave her off all together, since she has nothing to do with the wedding, but i think FH thinks she should be on there.
we know she can afford to help, and gave some BS reason that she wasn't (some crud about us already living together, which she was never against, as long as it got him out of her house)

whatever. i don't care, as long as my parents don't, since they're dropping a LOT of dough on this shindig!

edit: FH has a different last name than the rest of his family, so maybe it IS better to put FMIL's name on, anyway.

:p
