just wondering. fh is about to purchase my ring and it seems that all the vendors we speak to are trying to convince me to get white gold when ive always had my heart set on patinium. i just wonder can you see the difference b/w white gold and platinium after a while?
mine is platinum. there are pros and cons to both platinum and white gold, but over the years i believe white gold turns yellowish and may need to be 'dipped' to give it is shiny silver appearance.
I don't think you can tell that my ring is white gold at all...my FSIL works for a jewelry store and she prefers white gold. I know that it doesn't scratch as much as platinum does and apparently it holds diamonds better...I forget why, but she told me- something to do with the softness of the metals.
so platinum is better overall -in terms of holding up wthout so much upkeep.

i have white gold, it's an Elsa ring....i got it in December and have re-dipped it once already, and will redip it tomorrow before my eparty on sunday....when you re-dip it it gets rid of any scratches, brings it back to a nice clean color, and makes the ring look amazing and it only costs $30-$40!! I put my ring through hell because i wear it to work (hospital) and am always washing my hands and using hand sanitizer...
I have white gold. I haven't had any problems with it but I need to get it re-dipped before the wedding. I don't notice the yellowing of it on its own, but when it's next to my wedding band it doesn't look as bright.
complicated! and the worst part is that in the store everything looks perfectly shiny so it's hard to make a decision.
White gold is less expensive which is why I went with it. But the color does turn to regular gold after a while. I haven't had mine redipped yet but I can definitely see that on the part on the inside of my hand the color has changed and looks yellow next to my wedding band. But the front part with the stone still looks like white gold.

mine is platinum. platinum is rarer and will increase in value more rapidly than gold.
my aunt is a jeweler, and she prefers to use platinum becuase you dont have to get it dipped, its more antique looking (an above poster said you redip platinum, ive never heard that!)

Well, I'm not an expert, that's just what my jeweler told me. Maybe I heard him wrong?

u don't' have to redip platinum.. white gold u do. when i went to try on rings with my fh i tried on white gold rings.. he then went and brought a platinum ring. platinum is heavier.. i can FEEL my ring on my hand because it's heavy..
My friend has a white gold e-ring nd platinum band and you can tell the difference between the two when they are next to each other. I was told NOT to get platinum because it is softer than white gold and can bend and scratch much easier
