This is purely meant as a faith thread in honor of the beginning of Lent - not meant to be exclusionary or anything. And I know faith is an intensely personal topic, so if you share, I thank you in advance for putting it out there.
As some of you know, I am converting to Catholicism and will be confirmed on Holy Saturday. I'm really excited about the whole shebang and for the first time in my life, am really sitting down and thinking about what Lent means, what penance means, and what Jesus is calling me to do. FH is a cradle Catholic and went to 16 years of Catholic school and finds my faith journey 'cute,' which irritates me. I think he's barely aware that it's Lent...
anyone?

Re: It's Ash Wednesday - Can We Talk Faith?
Thanks! That makes me feel better. At least now I know that I have the option to do pre-cana weekly with my local church instead of driving all the way up to NY and pay $350 to get it over with in one weekend.

Annie - we did a one day deal at the Immaculate Conception Center (Diocese of Brooklyn) in Queens for $125 a couple. We are not members in the Brooklyn Diocese nor are we getting married in the Brooklyn Diocese. So - that's an option too. Just make sure your church will accept pre-cana from outside their Diocese (mine said no problem).
PS - Knowing the Bible inside and out doesn't mean he knows everything. Like someone said (maybe it was you), it's all about interpretation...

Interpretation - EXACTLY! That's what I told him. Plus, prior to the printing press, the Bible was transcribed, BY MAN, so there could definitely be errors, right? You just have to trust in your faith. Anyway, I'm hoping that during pre-cana FH and I can talk more about things when there is a priest there to mediate (and keep the peace ) Time to go home. Thanks for listening ladies!!!

Hey Annie...Matt and I did pre-cana through the Arlington diocese (we're not that Catholic but we are getting married in a Catholic church). We only had to do a few meetings at the church and the 'weekend thing'...only it wasn't the whole weekend, even! We did the 'Conference for the Engaged' and it cost us about $60 and Friday night and all day Saturday out in Ashburn, VA, and that was it! I FM'd this to you too...FM or call me if you want more info. My only caveat is that Arlington is SUPER conservative, and Clay might not be all that comfortable. But you can get it over with quickly without having to travel!!
