so on our way out to the hamptons yesterday, we kept passing by all these nice apts/condos and I was writing down the names and such so I could look them up on the comp later on...
Well, on the way back home, I said, 'yea, we should start looking for apts because i mean we have to get one in .... let see this is may... we need one by julyish... so thats 2 months...' It was at that point that I completely freaked out, heart palpatations and the works... thinkin wow how did i not realize it was THIS soon... This whole time I didnt realize that I was moving out of mom and dads within 2 months... I think I'm still a little on edge about it.. Its weird the way things suddenly hit you
On that note, if you're still reading this, can anyone suggest resources for apt rentals? We cannot afford to buy anything just yet so we'll be renting before the wedding! Sux, but what can ya do?!?

Re: Moving in together...
networking-thats how I did it. Kinda like I knew someone who knew was friends with a realtor that did a favor type of thing, they looked a little bit more for us ya know?
Ive done it through ads, but I hit alot of roadblocks with that.
Good luck, and dont worry, you'll be alright. My friend just moved out of her parents house 2 months ago to move with her bf and she was a little anxious too, but shes fine now.

It's good 2 know I'm not the only 1 who feels on edge about moving out! That makes me feel better!
OMG I know how u feel. We are in my parents house and moving out is bugging me out. We are going to hopefully buy something this summer if we can't swing it I might rent for a little while also. I always look on craig's list.

Re: Moving in together...
Congrats Gina!!!
I don't know what areas you're looking at, but really all you need to do is show up at the leasing office and they will show you empty units and tell you everything you need to know. We signed our lease a month before we were liviing there so we could spend an entire month moving in, since our lease at our old house ended the same month--very convenient. We had to give a deposit and get a credit check (which they deducted from the balance of the first months' rent) and once we were approved, they gave us a move-in date and we signed the lease and gave them a bank check. Before we moved in I called LIPA and Optimum to transfer our accounts. It was super duper easy. We had not one problem with our move-in or our apartment itself, except for when our heater kept conking out and it was a pain to get the maintenance guys here. All in all, very easy!

We are thinking queens for right now... as it would make for less bridge tolls (actually that would be eliminated for FH since he works in LI) and ill prob end up working in the city so that wouldnt be a bad troop everyday.

Some of the places I looked at in the area were Ridgewood, Glendale, Middle Village, and some parts of Woodhaven(grew up there), but we settled in Ozone Pk(cheaper rent, older couples who own houses, ya know what i mean?)

Re: Moving in together...
soo exciting!!
where are you looking? i was freaking out too when we were looking at apartments.... there were sooo many to choose from, and being new to the area, didn't help. i'm not sure how much they have for privately owned apts... i feel like it just may be complexes, but check it out:
the only thing is that you should take it with a grain of salt.... i just figured that people who are really upset with things would definitely write in, where, those who were happy probably wouldn't bother. it was a good resource for us though!

Congrats on moving in together- that is so exciting. If you are looking in Queens, check out Astoria, Kew Gardens, Woodhaven. I have friends that live in those areas.

Re: Moving in together...
I live in Astoria--born and raised and I LOVE IT!!
I would only move out when I want a family and want to buy a house. Homes are WAY too expensive here!
