Name some stores from when you were a kid that you loved but are now OOB

Original post by ambersmom

I used to love, love, love TSS. We used to go to the one in Hempstead and I thought it was soo cool when we parked on the top of the store and took the escalator down. I can still remember every inch of that store, even to how it smelled.

Thats what I was going to post about!!! There was one right down the road, now I think it's a TJ maxx. I loved Ben Franklin, actually got my first kiss there ....funny story!!!

I was lost in the store (bad mommy!!!) and some little boy was lost too - when his mommy found him, he planted one on me, then ran away really fast!

How about Korvette's?

I remember them too!!!!

What about Mays? I remember one being in Jamaica, Queens. I went w/my mom, grandmother and aunt to buy winter coats on sale in the middle of the summer. (as a kid I thought that was the stupidest thing ever). Anyway, I was totally bored and decided to look around the rest of the store, but neglected to tell anyone. When I finally returned to where they were, they didn't know whether to hug me or beat the crap out of me.

Needless to say, that wouldn't happen in these times....

What about Gertz, that was in Commack, also Consumers. You would look through a catalog and place the number on a piece of paper and turn it in and then when the item came down the conveyor belt they would call your last name. Also Service Merchandise.

Import Alley
Moments of Love (in Smithaven Mall)
Fluff N Stuff (Smithaven Mall)

I used to love the Tri-County Flea Markets (Smithtown in particular.)

Orange Julius is still around, just not on LI.

TSS was the first place I got lost!!
Our TSS was so cool though because it was connected to the Food Town next door and you could walk right from TSS right into Foodtown withought even leaving the store - I thought that was the coolest thing in the world!!
