but I was just on BHB and there was a post about showing e-rings and I love seeing everyones rings
However, the post promted this question for you: do you think it is necessary to let other people know how big your stone is and/or are you insulted/annoyed when people in 'real life' ask you the size??? I think it is a very obnoxious question. Who gives a crap how big it is??
Sorry JMO and Im tired of people doing it to me and to my friends.

I don't like the posts where people put the sizes of their rings. Notice how no one ever puts anything under a carat, even though there are plenty of girls out there with smaller diamonds. A post like that makes these girls, and their FH's, feel bad.
I am proud to say that my center stone is .75 carats

I posted on that thread as well, but I have to say I agree size does not matter. You all know my e ring was reset and since them I have gotten vicious comments from friends, strangers etc about it. My original ring was very simple and my center stone is also still .75 and I was proud to show it off then. Now I am reluctant to show off my ring as it is over 2carats total and people think I 'show off' if I dont watch my words.
I think it is so unfortunate because I wouldnt even care if I didnt have a diamond at all as long as I was with the man of my dreams!!!

OMG--That drives me clear up the wall! First of all don't touch me, second of all don't dirty my ring!!
I really don't get that- and I am so happy my finger is a size 4.5 - so no one can try my ring on! but people still ask-
I had to put my best smile on when some girl I worked with, but hardly knew, asked to try on my ring!! And I didn't even have it for a week yet. There was no way I was taking that puppy off my finger and passing it around the office. (I know she just wanted to compare it to her e-ring anyway).

Re: Not being rude....
I think its rude - it doesnt matter at all - how big it is - or how much it cost .....thats the meanting of it - what just cause my ring is bigger or smaller then someones means my love is more or less ...get over it -

hmm...i never really thought about this. i replied to an old show your engagement ring topic a while back and i think i posted the size. i posted it for descriptive purposes bc i did not have a pic to post (and i still have not mastered the art of posting pictures). i would think others posting the size in the description is to let readers get an imagine what it looks like. it doesn't bother me too much when people ask in real life, unless they say it in a derogatory way. ~lacey

Just curious if this is strictly an e-ring thing. Do you think questions on how big your house is/how much it cost or how nice/how much your car cost falls in the same category?

Unfortunately, there are people out there who judge based on where you live, what kind of car you drive, AND who makes more $$ (you or FH). If someone is in the market for a car and they ask me how much I paid, I'll tell them, but I if they aren't looking for a car...I know why they are asking.
And as far a home prices go....they are ALL expensive now. If you can afford to buy a home on Long Island, more power to ya!

I think it depends- people assume my car cost WAY more then it did - and people have been rude to me just about having such a nice car at my age
but in reality the payment is less then my Dad's for explorer
but if I just bought a house, car, bag etc and you were looking for the same thing- I would tell you
I would also tell you my necklace cost $4- if you asked - about a non expensive item as well
it depends on the person and the tone that it is asked it

Depends on who asks and how they ask.
If you are asking to speculate how much money I have, I won't discuss it.
If you are asking for research purposes- say you want a house/car/whatever, I may not tell you how much I paid for mine, but I'll help you research. Telling people how much you pay for things often makes them think they are entitled to judge you.

you put into words what i was just about to write. if you ask me how much i paid for my house because you are looking in that area or how much my lease is because you are interested in my car brand- thats totally fine
however to state it for purposes of showing off or flaunting it- or to make people feel inferior- i think that is mean and rude

Ya know I thought it was weird post myself. I just dont get why all the information about size, clarity, etc..was needed.

we get this a lot too about our car. but the truth is, when else can we have a two seater...once the kids start coming out, it's over..
we almost bought your car Beth (in 2002) LOVE it still
maybe when they see the car they 'realize' why fh couldn't 'afford' a diamond for me!
anyway, there's harmless curiosity, and then there's one-upmanship....some people need to do the latter to feel better about themselves. I find that very sad.

I agree, why should anyone care how big your stone is- it's not a competition!

Re: Not being rude....
On of FH friend's wife asked me how much my ring cost. I told her I didn't know. She Replied, 'Don't you want to know how much you are worth?' I replied, 'I am worth more than my ring.' I cannot stand rude people.

i hate hate hate hate hate this question!!! so rude to ask.....and i won't even go into the woman at work who said my ring was, ahem, 'cute.' WHAT!!!! wheres your ring sister??
but what i hate even more is when people stare at it, trying to look like they are admiring it, but they are really trying to figure out a) how big the stone is and b) how much it costs. give it a rest already

Re: Not being rude....
I think sometimes people loose sight of what the ring represents. It's a symbol of our FH's affection and their commitment to us. It's not about flashy jewlery. I don't know how many karats my ring is, but I don't care to be honest. It's not a status symbol, it's just a symbol that tells the world that he is committed to me
