I know how you feel. I'm an accountant and I work lots of hours too. . .my first year out of college I felt the same way, but now I try and focus on a hobby that makes me happy or budgeting my free time a little better to make the most of it.

It will get better

Yea thats a good idea! I am so lazy on the weekends though I sleep half the day away!

That is what I used to do too!!! Once I started getting up at a decent time, getting out of my pjs before noon (Or on sundays at ALL), I felt SO much better - I'm serious. It might be hard to make yourself get moving those first few weeks, but you should really try.

yeah FH and i wake up we'll relax for a bit but by noon we like to be out of the house. We go shopping, eat brunch, or whatever it is, we always find activities and i love it and look forward to our saturday routine. One time we were lazy and stayed in and around 2pm we were going crazy and had to get out of the house

Yea I have been trying to get out also but I feel like I spend all weekend running errands and cleaning

thats why i always tell FH we should open up a business in the future. Especially when we have kids ya know. Although he gets out at 2-3pm so hes lucky, if he gets out at 4-5 pm he gets all annoyed lol.

Yea opening a business is a great way to make some money and make your own hours

yeah i think about it when i have kids. What am i gonna do get home at like 6:30 and have to run around quick to make dinner, bathe them and whatever and put them to sleep just a few hours after i get home.

Yea exactly! This is what upsets me the most- when I think about having kids. Im so tired now when I get home I can't even imagine having to cook dinner, give them a bath, or have any energy to play with them.

i know exactly, and then when you get any time to yourself you'll be so exhausted you'll probably pass out.

Haha I know. And to be able to afford only working part time or something along those lines there is no way we can afford to stay on LI. I love it here but it just isn't feasible if I want to be able to enjoy life at all!

exactly part time or staying home would be hard. Thats why i want to open up something so this way we still have 2 incomes, and his hours are great so it would be fine.

Re: NWR: Rant about LIfe

yeah i totally understand!

when i started working, i really had a rough time with the adjustment - i called it my 'quarter life crisis'

I am still not totally over it, but i have come to appreciate the routine and truly enjoy the details like just spending time with FH when we can

i think the hardest part for me, that makes me the most depressed - is that i have no differentiation between the season, and no real 'holidays'

I mean, its like I take off Christmas eve, CHristmas and the day after but then its like back to work like any other day

AND I never ever know what season it is. This may sound dumb but I will be driving home from work in October thinking 'ooh its a little warm, summer is coming!' not even realizing that summer just passed but every day is the same regardless of season so I don't even notice!

LOL. Yea I never know what day it is, the whole week just seems to be a blur. Hopefully it's just an adjustment and I'll get used to it.

Just up to Orange County or Ulster County. Not too far from the city, but enough where the prices of houses drops dramatically. We were looking at newly build houses up there with 4 br and 2-3 Ba and they are about 320,000

Oh wow that sounds amazing! FH was talking about Orange County but I have never been there. I will definitely have to check it out Is it civilized over there? We were looking at NC last year to move after I finished school but we went there and it was too much of a culture shock for us so we decided to stay in NY.

Its pretty much like the suburbs. I don't live on LI but i think its not MUCH different than the island. Have you ever been to Woodbury Common OUtlets? Thats in Orange County.

Hi, I know I am such a newbie, I was up in Vermont (my fh had a certification class) stayed at his aunts house with NO internet.. OMG I was soooo bored, I wish I had stayed here

Anyway, I can get into action here and start wedding planning, other than getting ideas I have done nothing and am so excited to get started. I know I have to get crackin if I want to get married in 08.

Anyway, I really feel this post hits home! I have been feeling this way for quite some time! Both fh and I have good jobs and on paper it seems like we should be living the good life- in reality its sooo not th case! It definatly seems like all work, no play or all work and so little play

I cant even imagine what we will do with children either, I would love to be home as much as possible with them... I give credit to moms that work all day and take care of ther families too. I could barely take care of myself...lol

I have been depressed recently since I started working full time and graduated from school. Don't get me wrong I love my new job being an attorney and I feel so fortunate to have the experience I am getting. My rant is about life in general. I just feel like there has to be more to life than this. I work until 6:30, then go to the gym, by the time I drive home and eat and shower the entire day is gone and it's the same thing again tomorrow. Does anyone else ever feel like this? I just can't imagine what's going to happen when I decide to have children if I have no time for ANYTHING now! Whoever came up with working 5 days and only having a 2 day weekend *****

That's exactly how I feel. The day passes by soooo fast especially after I get home from work, I feel like I have no time to accomplish anything or even enjoy myself! And I can't come home and rest, instead I have to do even more work for my job to get ready for the next day! I keep telling everybody that we should all be off on Wednesdays in addition to the weekends... a little 'mid week' break to rest and catch up on things... some people think I'm crazy but I think I'd be a lot more productive that way!

I feel the same way Fh and work really hard to have the nice things and its so frustrating to see other people driving nice cars and buying huge houses, and we cant get ahead.. Dont get me wrong kudos to the people that have those nice things, I just never feel like I can get there without going into debt. It seems work asks me to do more and more and I live there.

I want to be 8ys old again...

Seriously those were the days! I can't even pay my bills (my loans that just started are like a mortgage payment!) nevermind even THINK about buying a house or a new car. Even if we could afford a house the only way it would be possible is if we worked 7 days a week just to pay the mortgage

I hear you I think we are on the same exact page and it's really frustrating! I don't even have time to do the things I need to do for myself nevermind take care of children. I'm so exhausted by the time I get home it stinks.

Yea that would be awesome. I keep telling FH that I want to move to Italy and live in a small house on the water. They really know how to live life there and they know whats really important- family and enjoying life and not material things like huge houses and expensive cars. I'm telling you if you find out who made up the 5 days working 2 days weekend thing let me know

NC being civilized...depends on where you are...my fiance and I grew up on LI and moved to NC after grad/med school. We love it--it's so much more affordable than LI and so much more civilized in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area than the rest of the state. Also, beautiful weather!

when i worked 9-5 -- 5 days a week, i always wondered who the heck made the work day 8 hours!

now i work 12 hr shifts during the night so i NEVER know what day it is. i miss everyones bdays, important dates etc. On top of that, hardly see the sunlight (esp during the winter), and usually catching up on sleep ...

but i always have time for LIW
