Have any of you ladies thought about moving out of NY?
FH desperately wants to move to NC when he retires but I don't think I can leave my parents here.

We are living together and renting half a house right now which is not too bad, but we would like to buy a house within a year after we are married. We are greatly considering moving off the island because it is so expensive here! I want to move somewhere that is not too far to travel from family. So we can see each other still.

FH and I have talked about moving to New Hampshire. Houses are ridiculously cheap there. FH is worried about leaving his family though.

Fh and I want to but he's a sanitation worker so we can't. He can only live in the 5 boroughs, Nassau county, and I think they just added Westchester.

FH and I bought a condo! Our common charges and mortgage are less then we were paying for rent! We knew we couldn't afford the house we wanted right now so we figured wed buy something were paying into and not renting and paying someone elses mortgage! We figure in 4 years we will have a nice dwn payment saved for the house of our dreams!

FH and I moved in together in December- before that we were paying $3100 combined for our 2 apartments!!! So now that we share the expenses, we're living as if we are still paying $3100, but just banking that extra money and saving up for a house. We want babies ASAP (me more than FH right now lol), and I'd like to bring them home to a house, with a nursery, rather than an apartment.Even though Id love to move out of NY, realistically we can't due to FHs families business.

It is nauseating to see how much cheaper it is to live in other states. My parents moved to FL and I would love to move down there. We have family here on Long Island, FL, MD, Texas and NJ so we are all spread out and don't really have to stay here. FH is a Technical Analyst so I am sure he can find work anywhere but I think gross salary would be the highest here if we stayed. We live in Suffolk County which is cheaper but still costly. I need to find a new job that pays more!!!

Ugh, tell me about it. FH and I were looking at houses in New Hampshire for fun and found out that for about $300,000, we can get a house that would cost at least $700,000 here. Taxes are ridiculously low too. I really wouldn't mind moving. My whole family lives in Korea so I'm used to being away from them. But FH has most of his family close by so he's afraid of leaving them.

Is anyone else dreading searching for a house with your FHs? FH and I have been trying but we really cannot seem to agree on what we both want. FH wants to stay in the town he grew up in but it's such a small and old town that a lot of the houses are very old and outdated. I want to look in the surrounding towns as well but he refuses. Ugh. I'm really dreading it.

FH and I rent an apartment together and probably will until we decide to have children. We are both in education, so with the limited number of jobs out there, we have no idea where we will be settling in the near future.

I am itching to buy a house and plan to start looking before the wedding to get an idea of what areas we want so that we can buy right after. We're trying to save as much as possible to make it happen. In fact, I'm beginning to crack on the dream Australia honeymoon, because it'll eat up about 10k or so and a house is so much more important. We live in Queens now (I'm from Queens) and would like to go out to Suffolk or up to Connecticut, so if anyone has any recommendations in terms of area I'm all ears!

I think this is what we might do--most reasonable thing for now and we'll still be building equity and not throwing our money away! This is a new small stress, but we're excited!

NWR - Home Buying
OY! This is such a source of contention for FH and me. I want to buy a house pretty much right after we get married. I want to own a house/condo big enough to start a family, and do it before we start one. He says we should save as much as we can, and then buy 'when we're ready' (which, to me, translates to never). We both have decent credit, his being better than mine. The problem is, I'm willing to buy a fixer upper, and do the work to make a house what we want it to be little by little. He wants to buy something move in ready. He just doesn't understand that it costs too much to do that.
We also constantly disagree on where to live. We're both from Queens, but I'm from Little Neck (which most people consider basically Long Island), and he's from Bayside, which is a little more populated. I would love to move to Long Island, but realize we will probably never be able to afford the property taxes. So I suggested we look in Jersey (even though the thought of having to drive on Jersey streets makes me nauseous), and he said he doesn't want to move far away from his family (aka his mom). I want to stay close to my family too, but I'd like to be able to afford to have a child and own a house, and don't see that happening in Queens or Nassau.
Luckily, we still have time to discuss it, and anything is possible!!
(Oh, also, I really want to be on that TV show Property Brothers, because they could find us a dirt cheap house and fix it up. Unfortunately, they only tape in Canada and Texas. LOL)

FH and I are planning on buying a house before or around the same time we're getting married. It's stressful to think about, but we're having a destination wedding to keep costs down. We don't live together and sometimes go days without seeing each other, I'm totally ready to have a home and be a wife!!

Neither of us would want to completely leave our families, but were it not for that, I'd leave NY in a heartbeat.

FH owns a co-op so we will be living there until we save enough money to put a down payment on a house. Ideally we would like to keep the co-op and sublease it to get some extra income but I'm not sure if we will be able to do that financially.Welcome New Vendors
