NWR: Hypothetical Question Help- Credit Related
Say someone is listed as an authorized user on someone elses credit card. Lets use FH and I as an example. FH is an authorized user on my cc. If I went bankrupt would that affect his credit as well? A friend of mine is in a real crappy situation identical to this and I'm trying to help out. Its affecting this persons credit positively right now because the cards that theyre on are high limits with low balances, but if 'I' went bankrupt it would still look negative on 'FH' right?

If they are just listed as an authorized user you going bankrupt will not affect them. So if this supposed person runs up your cards you are technically responsible it wont affect them. My friend had a similar situation....it sucks. HTH!

MAKE SURE that your friend is ONLY an authorized user and NOT a co-signer.My father added me as an 'authorized user' when I was 14 but used my name as the co-signer to be able to get the card. He defaulted on it and then claimed bankruptcy and I'm still fighting everything... almost 7 years later.

Shes definately just an authorized user. Do you know if the bankruptcy would have effected you the same way if you were a true 'authorized user'?

I'm not sure. She would have to call a financial attorney or the credit unions themselves. She might wanna get off as an authorized user before this person claims bankruptcy just in case.

I would remove her as an authorized user before the other person claims bankruptcy, being an authorized user does affect your credit, that is why most people become authorized users (to build credit) Even though claiming bankruptcy shouldn't really affect the other party the credit companies will find away to hurt both parties involvedI am a manager at a credit repair company (no not the bad ones (credit consolidation) we actually improve your credit ;)_) :) LMK if you have any other questions / concerns!

If they're an authorized user and not a co-signer it shouldn't affect them, but if she's worried she can just be removed from the account. You can never be too careful when it comes to credit!
