NWR- what do you give for a baptism?

My friends daughter is being baptised this weekend and I have no idea what is an appropriate gift. Do I give an actual gift? Or do I give money? How much?

Money is always accepted, so are savings bonds.

We always give money of savings bonds.

Usually only the god parents get an actual gift, like a cross or jewlery.

When my son was baptised everyone gave either money or savings bonds, except for DH weird friend who gave us an outfit from baby gap... but it was for a girl!!! We have a son

I forgot to answer the second half. Most of our single friends gave $100 or $150. Family gave more.

Really? That much?
The only reason I say that is because that's roughly how much people were saying to give for a Bat Mitzvah- which is a much bigger deal and a more elaborate type of event.

Yes, that much. The money is supposed to be used toward the baby's college.

Baptisms are not usually as 'eleborate' of an event physcially (like as in a dj, hall and all that). BUT they are spiritually, it welcomes a baby into the Catholic church.

We gave my nephew cash. Since then my sister and bil have opened a college account for him so for his first b-day next month we are putting a contribution to it.

Thanks for posting this question as FH and I have a baptism 4/10 and were unsure what to give.

We are going to one for FH's cousin in a few months. We can only give $50 -- we are just too strapped to give more than that.

I would usually do money &/or savings bonds. For my nephew I also did a Personalized Precious Moments Bible. It was adorable!

I think $50 is okay to give.

I usually give $$, 50 or 100 and a small gift, such as a little christening cross or a frame.

I work with a favor and invitation person, so I have all those things at my disposable!

Wow! You guys are generous!

For some reason, we haven't been able to attend most of the baptisms we've been invited to.

I have been sending $50 plus a gift off the baby registry for approx $25.

When my cousin baptized her 1st son and we attended, we only gave $50 (now I feel cheap!) But, I was in grad school at the time and didn't have a job.

We are the god parents of her next baby. So, I am getting the cross and chain, and we're getting a nice cross from Italy to either hang on the wall or put on his dresser. We were also going to give $100 since we're the godparents.

Well in my DH's family they are probably equal to the same thing! We had our son's baptism at a Giardinos... nothing crazy but everyone else in his family has it at a hall, with a dj, and a full vienesse hour etc.
