October 03 Brides.......

Original post by mv1003

Where are all of you in your planning?

I'm looking high and low for a dj and a videographer. We got engaged over a year ago and I thought I had all this time... I'm now thinking I wasted so much time

OctBride03 where are you in the planning stages?

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Thanks! I think that's a wonderful idea. Maybe not choco. bars- but something to that effect. I'll have to hit the drawing board, I just don't know if we could afford both. One reason for not doing them was the budget. Oh well, we'll think of something.

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Well that was just a suggestion, but something along those lines, somehow you get them made somewhere and they look nice. But, I was thinking how you can do this. Set the budget for favors including your donation. Let's say your budget is $500, take out $300 or so and leave the rest for a little something. I hope I helped. I will search today, even though I should do some real work, haha!

Stores like Mace's or even a 99 cent store may have a little something you would like, buying ribbon and tulle is the easy part. If you have to wrap them yourself, that's the worst that can happen, ya know?

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Hi Girls...I am new to the board and I see that alot of you October Brides have already picked out BM dresses....
Am I behind schedule? When do I have to have them done by???

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Hello and welcome aboard! Hope this makes you feel better - I don't have my BM dresses yet! I'm actually holding off on ordering them until after the new year, just in case some new style comes out! Don't worry, you are not behind schedule!

So, tell us... where are you with your planning??? Got your hall? Band/dj? How's it going so far?

Good luck with your planning, we are here to help!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Ok - here goes....I am ready for the 'are you crazy?' BUT - I am getting married in Italy....
I live here in NY, but FH is from Italy and that is where his family is and where he proposed....
It is going to be about 50 people and I am majorly freaked out about planning this overseas!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

WOW!!! I didn't expect that answer!! That sounds awesome! I give you a lot of credit! If there is anything we can help you with just ask! I will try my best. I'm not sure how you are going about arranging for things. Photo/video, food, dress, etc. Have you planned any of that yet? Are you having a bridal party???

Good luck!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Only having MOH and Best Man -
Already ordered my dress and will take it with me on the plane.
Reserved a Villa at which we are getting married (ceremony and reception)
I have a wedding coordinator in Italy who is helping me with finding photographers and videographer etc....
and to top it off - the prices of tickets so far are outrageous! (everyone keeps telling me they will go down though...)
Alot of my friends are turning it into a vacation and planning to stay for a week or more....
I can't wait!
I have so many questions though.....favors - send there - buy there - bring with????
tons of stuff going through my head.....

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Wow! It sounds like you have things under control! The favor question, I think buying here and sending there is the easiest way. Same thing with invitations, you do all of that here. The only thing I would think to book there is the photo/video and entertainment! Wow, I'm excited for you! It sounds like it's going to be amazing!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Thanks! I hope so....It's scary booking a villa that you can only see in pic's and picking a photographer that you can't sit down and talk to and go over his portfolio....
I think I am on the right track though....
I will keep you updated as we go....I think I may start to loose it once we start getting closer....but doesn't everyone?

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Octbride03- thanks so much for your suggestions I appreciate everything so much. I had typed my reason before, but deleted it... the reason for the choc. bars- We threw FMIL a surprise 50th b-day party a few years ago. We had flowers and gave out chocolate bars as favors. Well, FH Aunt (classy) ate 1/2 the bars before we even gave them out!!!! (Pig) Then, she drove around her car and proceeded to try and load the flower arrangements (all of them, not just 1) in her trunk! Can you imagine? I fear that this psycho would try to do that at the wedding as well. Soooo-- I wanted to put the almonds at each seat w/ the name cards and have that be something the guests take. Plus, I really thought it would be nice to give to a charity. I really have to check out the $.99 cents stores and look into picture frames. I think I remember a thred of someone who got them really inexpensive. Maybe I can do both of that, and give to a charity later?

Sage10.03-WOW!!!! Italy! That is amazing. I went to a wedding in Ireland once, it was gorgeous!!! A good friend of mine got married last year and was suppose to have a 2nd reception in Italy. What part is your reception? Her husbands family is from there- I'll ask her where... but if you need to ask any questions, his family lives there and I'm sure she'd be happy to help any bride to be After planning her wedding, she is going to start a wedding store herself

I don't have BM dresses yet either. Just started the search- you're not behind, you're right on target w/ us. Welcome abord!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

OH MY!!! What a crazy lady!!! Okay, forget the candy! But the almond idea is a good idea! Definately check out a 99 cent store! I'm sure you'll definately find something there! As for the charity, I mean, I don't expect you discuss budget with me, but if you really want to do it, then I say... do it! Just do the almonds, wrap them up nicely with ribbon and tulle and you're set... Give to the charity, it seems like that is something you really want to do Forget about the frames! OR just do the frames. And the charity of course. I'm probably making you crazy, but I say figure out what you have set for favors/charity. And split it however way will make you happy. Once you have a figure to work with, I think things might be a little easier for you. Good luck!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Thanks MV1003 -
Getting married in Tuscany....FH is from there and has family still there.
I would love to hear if your friend has any suggestions!!!
I am glad to hear that I am on schedule with all of the other Oct.'03 Brides!!!!!!
Phew!

Your story about the choc. bars was hysterical....(I know it really isn't but.....)

What great ideas you all have - so glad to be here!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Sage10.03 I will certainly ask her. I'm not sure where his family is, but maybe they'll know something?

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Sage10.03- I haven't forgotten about you! I just haven't heard back from my friend yet. (She's got a 6 month old baby and in the process of moving)

I'm still trying to decide on a dj, actually- I know who I want, but now FH wants to go meet w/ him as he couldn't go w/ me on Monday. I hope to book that next week.

I'm also working on my Save the Dates- are any of you doing them? (Sorry if I asked this already)

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Hi Ladies -

Sorry I've been out for awhile. Was in the ER Monday night - cut my hand making dinner - 15 stitches later and I still can't type!!!!!!!!!

I'm doing STD magnets. Laura from LA Productions is making them for us. I'm waiting for a final sample anyday now.

How is everybody else?? I have a lot of reading to catch up on

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Good Morning all!

Take your time with the DJ. Make sure you are comfortable with who you are booking! If you like Burke, go with Burke!

Save the Date - nah we're not doing them. We sent out engagement announcements and on the bottom wrote an October 2003 Wedding is being Planned. That's about it. I didn't even send an announcement in to the newspaper. Did any of you???

Edited: OH MY GOODNESS KAREN!! Hope everything is okay! 15 stitches in your hand... Wow! Feel better.

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Karen32- Hope you're feeling better!!! OHG! I feel so bad for you!

No, we both decided that we didn't like Burke. Not that they didn't seem good... just they didn't do a lot of weddings. So, FH thinks he'd be more comfortable w/ GIT as well, just wants to meet him. (He hasn't wanted to meet anyone as of yet) ... so, hopefully next week

I'm only sending STD's to the out of towners who might need to make a reservation. I was going to try to be motivated and make them, but..... I think I'm just ordering them- who has the time. (We plan on making our own inviatations.... stay tuned in a few months when I write- ok, so we're buying them!) hee hee

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Very cute mv1003! Hopefully your FH will like GIT. Then you can cross that off your list

You know, I think I read posts and then I forget about them the second I go to another one. I do remember reading about Burke not doing a lot of weddings. So, I change my mind. LOL if you don't feel comfortable with them, cross them off! But you've already done that, so now I am babbling! haha! Good luck with GIT!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Hi Girls!

I'm new to the board too, and having an Oct 18th wedding in 2003. I am stressed, b/c I am getting married on LI, but I live in Maryland, so this long distance planning is kind of stressful, although most things seem to have fallen into place-
What we've got so far...
DJ
Church
Reception
My dress

Next weekend, when I'm home for Thanksgiving, I need to go with some of the bridesmaids to look at dresses for them- any suggestions? My family is in Bay Shore- suffolk cty on the south shore.

Also, when do I need to register? I am worried that if we do it now, things will be discontinued!!

I can tell this board is going to be addictive!!

Re: October 03 Brides.......

Hello and welcome! Yes this board is VERY addicting! BEWARE!

Looks like you're doing pretty well considering the distance you're planning from! There is the Bridal Suite of Bayshore, however it had a fire a couple of weeks ago, I believe they are working out of a tuxedo shop on the same street. Main St. I think. Also Adrienne's I believe is on the same street further out in Islip. Sorry I dont have better info.

I think you can register whenever. We registered about 2 months after we got engaged. So far we haven't had a major problem with items being discontinued. Only one thing was discontinued and that was our skillet, no biggie. haha. We registered at Fortunoff so they let you know right away so that you can change it.

Good luck with your planning. This board is great! It'll make your planning much more relaxing!
