I have a makeup trial this Saturday. The makeup artist name is natasha denis and her website is http://www.natashadenis.com/. Hopefully I can give you ladies good feedback on her because her pricing was great!

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
Hello my beautiful chocolate brides its nice to see a thread just for us. I booked a makeup trial with Patricia from Gypsy Artistry who's a sweetheart, but I wasn't 100% satisfied so I booked her again to give her another chance. I really liked her and felt comfy with her.

How is everyone else's planning going? I booked most of my vendors except the videographer and the limo and hair/makeup. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. And if anyone needs advice on other vendors let me know as well :)

I have a great hair stylist if thats what you want. The thing is she works in the city and is a bit pricey but she's a celebrity stylist. She may work with you if you tell her it's for your wedding. Let me know if you would like her info...

Her prices are competitive, she's worth the money. I have a link. I think she is really talented and she has a facebook page as well.

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
I have not been on the site in a while and am SOOOOO pleased to see this thread! I see some ladies are looking for a dj, we are booking with Energy Entertainment. The DJ's name is Kirk, very reasonable prices. I actually found him in a article in bride magazine. The couple was African-American and Jamaican. He had very good reviews and I love his personality. I am still in the same boat as everyone with the make up, my hair will be done by my beautician, I love her work so I know she will not fail me.

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
Thanks! Her prices are pretty good. I have a question for you ladies concerning bridesmaids hair. I think hair is always an issue for 'us' but when are your bridesmaids getting their hair done? I don't want them in the salon the day of but also don't want their hair to not look fresh by getting it done the day before. So I'm curious how you ladies are handling this. I was having someone come day of to do my hair.

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
Well for me, my bridesmaid got their hair done the night before. When they came to the hotel the day of, they just took out the pins and curled it a little bit. Everyone hair was out, because I hate up dos.

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
OMG!!!! SO Happy I came across this thread!!!! I am not jumping the broom, but I have to say that hair & makeup have been the largest battle!!! I am asking everyone if they can work with all hair types, and they always say yes...but not sure. Guess I will have to trial to figure it out. So any suggestions are great!!! I look at galleries, and see if I see all shades and hair types, and if I do not then I am skeptical. lol....I may trial with Gypsy Artistry...I see decent pricing and people of all shades! I'm sold. lol

I had a trial with Mia and booked her for my wedding. She really is amazing. I have nothing but good things to say about her and I can't see how anyone could go wrong using her. She did my hair and make-up for my engagement photos and I honestly felt absolutely beautiful. I had the same concerns - wanted to make sure someone could work with my skin tone and my type of hair. I had no issues at all with her. She is familar with all skin tones and hair types. This was *very* important to me as my bridal party is a mixture of black and white!
