DA77 panelli look a lil like pancakes onyl they're rectangular and not round. basically they're made with the flour of chick peas and deep fried in lots of oil. we eat them on heros and we pile on like 4 or 5 of them for the ultimate panelli sandwich. some people love adding extra salt or lemon or even ricotta cheese to them. i don't know where u live but if you're ever in brooklyn go to gino's on 18th avenue or joe's focacceria on ave. u and get a panelli sandwich...u won't regret it

edited to write chick peas - i wrote ceci beans before oops lol

Yummy! That sounds delicious - I love ceci in every form, but I've never had it like that! I'm going to ask around. I'm from Astoria and there are plenty of Sicilian bakeries and pizzerias but I've never seen them. I guess i have to come to Brooklyn!

HELP! I am not Sicilian so can someone please tell me what panella is? And is there another word for it that I might recognize?

Panelli is basically chick-pea dough seasoned and cooked in a pan until it thickens and gets sticky. Then it is refrigerated for a couple of hrs - and then sliced and fried. it is eaten with italian bread, and usually we add lemon, or ricotta.

This is the best I can remember - my mom makes it every now and then
Sicilian ladies - if I made a mistake - pls correct me - TIA!

Thank you!

Nonna: Come Stai Jiiimmmie
FH: Work was ok
Nonna: E la tua Momma?
FH: It's so beautiful out right Nonna?
Nonna: Stamattina ho parlato con Luigi...stano bene
FH: Yea I can't wait to eat I'm starving
Nonna: bene bene

This goes on for like 10 minutes ALL THE TIME - my whole family stands there and laughs at them...

AND they always ask how the mother, father, brother and sister are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She's never even met his father and she's always asking him how he's doing -
I LOVE her she's so cute...she lives with us and every morning she is comes and inspects my clothing - to make sure I have enough layers on
she always telling me to go put on a heavier sweater, or something that doesn't make my neck all exposed - you know in case you catch cold

PS. please don't forget about the white, holed knee socks that we wore as kids. Please tell me that I'm not the only one!

you're not the only one! trust me i have a ton of pics with the infamous socks on

I displayed a baby picture at the place card table and everyone pointed out that I was wearing 'the socks'.

OMG..I would dread that time in the summer making the sauce.....and my fathers beloved Fig Tree!!! He wraps it up at the end of the year like it is a baby. HE even built shelter out of wood,to make sure it doesnt get cold..even after all the layers of vinyl he wrapped it in for insulation...hahahahaaaa

I miss that time. Now that both of my Nonnas passed away, we rarely make the sauce. And my Nonno with his fig tree - I so miss seeing it prepared for winter.

I'm so restarting the tomato picking/sauce making tradition when I have a house (with the necessary second kitchen!)

Yeah, my poor brother - he wants to renovate his basement, and we're trying to convince him to keep the cement floors b/c it won't get ruined if we want to make sauce there!
