I'm so restarting the tomato picking/sauce making tradition when I have a house (with the necessary second kitchen!)

Yeah, my poor brother - he wants to renovate his basement, and we're trying to convince him to keep the cement floors b/c it won't get ruined if we want to make sauce there!

It's true, though! That's the whole point of the second kitchen!!

Re: **Official Italian Bride Thread**

Do any of you get dried funghi (mushrooms) sent to you from your relatives in Italy? We get packages every season in the mail - my non-Italian friends look at me like I'm nuts when I get the mail and here is this hug package and I'm like 'oh the mushrooms came from Italy' their like 'mushrooms???' and then when they see them all dried out they are like 'you sure those are mushrooms?'

I swear up and down that 'slippers' in the house are an Italian thing because I grew up wearing slippers in my house and I still wear them, as does my mom and my nonna - my mom wears the Dr. Scholl ones and in the winter she wears them with socks...I'm like 'Ma...that is such a fashion no no...' she's like 'che no-no'

Re: **Official Italian Bride Thread**

oh my gosh...I missed a lot!!! You guys are a pisser.....

Ok. When I was a kid my parents, grandparents, and every other relative spoke Italian to me...for some reason..I speak it like complete c r a p...but understand it pretty well. My mom still speaks it to me and I always reply in English. On the other hand, my sister who is only two years older than me speaks it and understands it really well..it's so weird...right!!

Raisin...I always wore the holey socks and DREADED tomato sauce season...All of our neighbors used to come over and we would have tomato seed fights...my mom used to get soooo mad..

Ro...my mom dries (sun baths) everything outside. My parents hang proschutto in our basement too..

I am also a Rabit lover...( ) and I must say both my MIL and mother make it really well and it's probably my fav. dish....

speaking of ciabatti that fit her - my mom boought a pair os shoes for my nonna from parade of shoes - and she cut the back - so they are 'fancy' ciabatti that matches her balck dress everyday - bc wearing pants is a big NO NO!!!

i looked into il fornetto and lundy's on emmons ave in shepshead bay.. they are both expensive.. but for a saturday night in the middle of summer they were the only two that have good food and were willing to give up their space for a 50 person party at 7pm.

THEY WERE BOTH VERY VERY VERY EXPENSIVE

I just went to a Bridal Shower at Il Fornetto last weekend.. the food was really good!

Re: **Official Italian Bride Thread**

I've just been sitting back and reading all these posts. And my whole life I thought my family was odd....(well, we are but now I know there are still real Italians out there!)

keep it comin ladies!

My Dad still makes jars of eggplant and garlic/oil & vinegar, his own wine, but not the sauce. Since my mom passed away & even before that we stopped. Too much work....he still has his insulated fig trees though!
