I laugh now because..everything.. and I mean everything.......I still hear his voice in my head....'MAL O'CCHIO!!!'(spelling)

Geeze - I had to get my ring prayed on every week when I was engaged. And I had to put a red ribbon in my bra on my wedding day. I was afraid at any minute someone would bust out the olive oil and the bowl of water every time I felt sick!

Re: **Official Italian Bride Thread**

Did someone mention Panettone??? I posted this on '06 in December.

NWR: My mother wants her fruit cake (long story)

Last year, someone I work with gave me the most random of random gifts: A Panettone (the Italian fruit cake). If you know what it is, you know why it's so random. And if you don't know what it is, it sounds random anyway.

So, knowing that FH an I would never eat it, I took this huge honking Panettone and brought it to my parents for Christmas Eve. They inspected this huge honking cake, asked me who in their right mind paid $40 for a Panettone (the tag was left on accidentally) and sliced it up when the coffee was ready. They tasted it. There was silence. And then they spoke: My entire family couldn't believe how amazing this Panettone was - so good, that they told the rest of my huge family about this fruit cake of fruit cakes.

Fast forward to today - I called my mother to let her know when I'll be home for Christmas Eve and she said, 'I need that Panettone. You know, like the one we had last year.'

I said,'You know the subways are down.'

'Right, yes, but I need that Panettone,' she said.

'Mom, don't you have, like, 12 Pannetone's ready to give out to people? Just keep one for Christmas Eve.'

'But I want the GOOD Panettone. Don't come home without it.'

I am walking 15 blocks and back at 3 - to get the Precious Panettone. Please send warm thoughts my way!

Panettone's a little dangerous right now. I think I'll have to stick with the eggplant and artichokes til November!

Can I just say that (non-Italian) people have asked me if 'that man' (Padre Pio) is my uncle because his pictures are all over my mother's house.

I thought I was the only one whose parents put saint cards in their things (my parents sneak them into the dashboard of my car).

haha! me too, nobody ever knows who it is! My parents also put a little Padre Pio action figure (as I so affectionately call it) right smack in the middle of their dashboard in the car. That's when I got my own car....
