~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello Ladies.
Well as im planning I thought It would be a great idea if we got ourselves togetehr to talk about issues facing Jewish brides.
I also thought it would be great to share ideas and vendors.
For example:
1. I was told to get suede black Kippot. They will stay on heads better, the black looks better in pix because there is NO reflection, and the groom looks better with a black kippot on insted of, lets say a sattin color kippot.
2. What are you doing for you chuppah?
3. I am using my brandfathers tallis to wrap us in during part of the ceremony. If that wasnt going to happen I would use it with the chuppah.
4. When do they normally play the horah? Is right after the first dance?
5. Any vendors yet for your Ketubah and Kippot?
6. I saw a great website that Im going to buy the glass and bag from. In general you have to be careful not to use a THICK glass or a lightbulb.
--A thick glass may not break, or g-d forbid cut the grrom!
--A lightbulb can be very messy.
By buying this special glass we are going to make something from the shards.....a photoframe...something.
So I hope we can all help eachother.
EDIT!!!!
So I just went to the wedidng salon event at the Harvard Club. It was ok...but I got a brochure for ketubah!!!!
www.mpartworks.com
I also have a coupon code for 10% off. So ask and I will post!!!! I WILL be getting from here!!
the hora can come before or after the first dance. Our band leader told us it's nice to do it before the first dance because then you get everyone engaged right away and their all pumped up... just a thought!
yay!! Well I can't answer most of your questions but as for the chuppah our RH does not provide it but I'm pretty sure some florists have the actual structure. I was thinking of using the tallit that I got Bat Mitzvah'd in or possibly one of my father's tallits as the 'roof'...I'm not quite sure yet.
Mikesbride-
I am going to have to get one from the florist.
I know my cousin had a tallis (her grandfathers??) and just had 4 beautiful branches for the poles.
The only bad thing is 4 people had to hold it the whole time.
Have you ordered kippot yet?
No I figured to do that after the new year...I was thinking of just asking where my synagogue refers the bar/bat mitzvahs to.
Mostly its the Hora (hava negila, shalom alechem).
Just ask the band what songs they play. Its USUALLY a few in a row.
HMMM I don't remember my rabbi saying anythign about getting wrapped in a tallis. I need to check on this.
We found a ketubah we liked on shopketubah.com. We have not ordered it yet though.
Has anyone found a cheap place to get the kippot that are nice???
We're having an interfaith wedding, I'm jewish, FH is not. He feels really uncomfortable wearing a kippot so we are not going to have them at the ceremony. Sorry I cant help with that one!
I feel in love with the Ketubahs at http://www.ketubah.com/. And then my rabbi gave me a discount code to use when ordering! Don't worry I'll share!
Just found a rabbi who will marry us. Such a relief!
Hi, thanks for starting this thread. Can you tell me that website for the glass and bag. I hadnt even thought about this yet. But it's not necessary right to buy one, I could use a lightbulb wrapped up really well if I wanted to...like there nothing in Jewish law that says you cant, right lol?
Re: ~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~
You can definitely use a light bulb. People use them because the 'pop' is loud. I know a lot of people who used them.
As for the chuppah, you get that through your florist. It's def not cheap, but they can be really beautiful. We're doing a suspended chuppah (from the ceiling) so it doesn't block anyone's view and is more open. They are really beautiful.
I got a restaurant with a package. So they have a Rabbi, Chuppah and the Kipos. So I dont have to worry about getting all that. Thanks for the glass idea.
Re: ~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~
As soon as I get home I will share the glass link.
The only reason we are not doing a lightbulb is we want to save the glass and make something from it. You cant really do that with a lightbulb.
Re: ~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~
A lot of people do lightbulbs and it is 100% acceptable. Just make sure you wrap it carefully b/c when it breaks it can be really messy.
I think any judaica store will carry the 'special glass' with pouch. I assigned this task to my mom.
We did our hora after the first dance for a few reasons:
1) We wanted our entrance to go right into our first dance
2) During our first dance, everyone was invited to join us on the floor. We then started hora music and everyone was already on the foor.
3) We wanted our pics to look great of the first dance, and one tends to get sweaty and dissheveled during the hora. We didn't want to do the hora, get all sweaty and then have to do our first dance not looking our best!
