yeah, my RH does not offer either. the old folks in my family keeps asking me what food we're having and im like oh, you know, little spinach triangles and chicken marsala and stuff. they're like 'QUE? chicken and mushrooms?! whose ever heard of such a thing!'

i dont know what we are going to do with my RH since they have all this fancy stuff that ive never heard of and im american. what's FH's family gunna say??

i am tryingg to think up some stuff i can suggest to the hall (they said they'd do anything we want) that the dominicanos would like but i cant really think of anything more than pastelitos.

any sugerencias?

You're so sweet. Honestly, just 1 station at cocktail hour is all you need. I'm pretty sure they can arrange for some arroz con pollo and plantains...maybe you can supply the bar with 5-10 bottles of Brugal (Dominican rum)....just seeing that at the bar will make everyone smile and know that you considered them.

Oh...and yes- GRod is AWESOME for keeping this thread alive. Here's to you Chica

Re: Official Latina Brides Thread

ah ha i found out what's in it

Mama Juana is a drink from the Dominican Republic that is concocted by allowing rum, red wine, and honey to soak in a bottle with tree bark and herbs[1]. The taste is quite similar to port wine and the color is a deep red. It is seen and advertised as an aphrodisiac, with many natives of the Dominican Republic claiming that the drink has similar effects to Viagra. Women have also claimed that Mama Juana enhances horny sexual desire.

Basically, Mama Juana is a mixture of bark and herbs left to soak in rum (most often dark rum but the use of white rum is not uncommon), red wine and honey. The solid ingredients (local leaves, sticks and roots) vary from region to region but usually include some of the following:

Anamú (Petiveria alliacea)
Bohuco (Cissus verticillata)
Basil
Canelilla (Cinnamodendron ekmanii)
Caro
Marabeli
Clavo Dulce
Maguey (Agave spp.) leaves
In addition to the above standard recipe, it is common for individuals to add other ingredients such as cinnamon, raisins, molasses, and lemon or lime juice. The concoction is usually kept at room temperature and served in a shot glass. As with many other alcoholic drinks the longer the maker lets it sit the better it tastes.

It's not illegal to posess it in your home or serve it there, but they cannot serve it in public establishments. Something about the palos in it and the alcohol content.. Me personally.. I love the stuff.. aaaaaaaaaaah!
