Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

dumb question .....

what is Coquille St. Jacques?

we haven't done our tasting yet, but we are going there for mother's day brunch so we will be able to taste some of the food.

From what I remembered it was scallops and potatoes.

One year later and the Milleridge still manages to disappoint...

Our first anniversary is tomorrow and I called to order a cake that would have the same cake, filling and icing as our wedding cake. The bakery told me that since it's Mother's Day, they're not making any cakes to order. Even after I explained that it was our first anniversary, we had our reception at the Milleridge, paid them tens of thousands of dollars and just wanted something tangible to remember our wedding day, the evil bakery woman's answer was still no.

Hey MJDoc, that's when my wedding is! You sure you're not one of my guests?

I'm sure you're going to the Cottage or the Restaurant. Mine's in the Carraige House.

We had our tasting today. The Crepe Florentine was out of this world. When we get our DIY menu's done, we're going to post pictures of them.

Getting down to the wire here. We made our final appointment for the payment and to drop off placecards and such. So exciting!!

Another aside...

There was a thread here about charging tax on gratuity.

Some ladies said that if it's called a 'service charge', that they can charge you tax on it. I asked Kristy today and she said no, absolutely not, they do not charge tax on their 'service charge' that's on the paperwork.

By the way, she was very helpful with all the plans, questions I had, etc. We're feeling pretty good about this. And we pick up the sample centerpiece in 3 days!

Hey greenfreak--i think it's in the cottage. i'm not sure! i gotta ask her. the invite doesn't specify--the reception card just says 'Milleridge Inn'

btw---if Kristy is your BM--you should congratulate her. She just got engaged! I know someone who is her FH's partner at work--and he finally proposed!!

ETA--i just noticed your time--u must be having a daytime reception. the one i'm going to starts at 5 p.m. at milleridge

Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

I actually have to call Kristy today, I will congratulate her then, thanks!

More details on the tasting:

My FH wasn't too thrilled about one of the hors d'oeuvers (scallop wrapped in bacon) and Kristy let us substitute one of the hors d'oeuvers from the 3-star menu! I thought that was really cool.

My FH and his family are Russians and thus, Chicken Kiev experts. He was a little worried about the way they prepared it because his parents are very picky. So Kristy gave us other white-meat options that weren't even on the menu. We chose Chicken with lemon and champagne sauce. It's kind of like Chicken Francese but with champagne instead of wine. She even offered to have the chef prepare two different entrees for us, even if we don't choose it as an option for our guests! I was really happy with her flexibility, it makes a big difference.

We chose to taste the Sirloin shell steak but weren't too thrilled about it. We found out that Chateau Briand is a filet mignon, so we chose that instead even though we didn't taste it. For a wedding, we like the best cut of beef available.

I ate very little of each thing so I didn't feel sick by the time we left but I would have liked to sample a dessert. Especially the chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce!

We chose our cake too. Vanilla pound cake with hazelnut filling, whipped cream icing, 'swiss dots' decoration on each tier, light green/pink/purple buttercream roses for decoration with dark green leaves, and I'm going to bring them light green satin ribbon to put around the base of each tier.

I also found out that you can rent a card box from them for $20.! I already decided to buy one from one of the other brides here so I didn't take her up on it. But it's very pretty; it's a Beverly Clark and looks very similar to the one we're buying. That's ok, if we keep it in perfect condition, we'll just resell it!!

We were going to add on Grey Goose vodka to the bar and possibly Bass or Guiness too. Kristy was going to get us a price for both but we decided not to bother. There is enough of a choice of other alcohol.

Day after tomorrow, we go back for the centerpiece. Can't wait to see it!

One more nugget of info...

They are now accepting credit cards as final payment. So even though the paperwork says it must be certified check, Kristy confirmed I can just bring in my Visa debit card at our last appointment and she'll use that for the balance instead. Very cool.

Greenfreak - I can't wait to see pics of your sample CP!!
The BM's are definitely really flexible - that is one of the main reasons I chose the Milleridge! You have no worries about the chateau briand. We tried the filet mignon during our tasting and FH and I were happily suprised with the quality (it was delicious!!).

Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

Ok ladies, we went and saw Bob the florist tonight. But first some MORE good news!

At the end of last season when we were making appointments and touring the village, I noticed how rundown it was. There was paint chipping and peeling everywhere, the metal railings were rusting right through the paint, there was mold on the thatched roofs, the place just looked a mess.

I was worried, really worried, because there is an hour between my ceremony (15 minutes down the road) and the cocktail hour. My Mom has been spreading the word that they can hang out in the village while they're waiting.

Well! We walked into the village tonight and they painted EVERYTHING. Not only that, but they put a brand new wood gazebo in the middle of it with a really nice wood bench inside it. It even has little curtains that are pulled back. We're really looking forward to taking pictures in there!

We also snuck into the Carriage House to look around and sat down at a table that was set for 10 to see how comfortable it was. It was fine. So no worries about people feeling sandwiched in.

And we peeked at the handicap bathroom on the first floor. Besides one cracked floor tile, it's nicer than the bathrooms downstairs! And more room for one person to move around in! I'm going to ask Mom to spread the word that they should use that bathroom if it's free. I know I will be. We only have one guest who is handicap and she's cool with it.

So now, here are my sample cp pictures. Do you think I should ask him to make the cymbidiums a different color, like yellow maybe? The petal colors pale in comparison with the white freesia. I know it's because the orchid's petals are waxy where the freesia isn't, but I thought it might be nice in a different color:

As far as your CPs go .....I think they are beautiful the way they are. If you feel like you'd like to see it a different way.....I say ask them, I def. think they'd be more then willing to help you out!!

The flowers look terrific!!! I responded to you on BHB board. I think the yellow would also look good with your other colors. Maybe see if he could give you another sample using the yellow.

Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

I'm glad to hear that they renovated the village area but I'm alittle nervous about the cottage itself. When I was there with FH a few weeks ago I noticed water damage on the outside of the cottage...looking at it from the front it looked like it needed a paint job and some up-keep...I hope they fix it up

Re: Official Milleridge Thread!

Hi Girls,

FI and I went to check out the Milleridge Carriage House in person today and we were definitely pleased! However, my only concern is the outdoor cocktail hour. The BM I spoke with said they can fit enough tables for 75 people. I can't see them fitting tables for 75 out there let alone 75-90 standing people w/o it being completely crowded. FI loved the place, w/o even really seeing the inside, and thought the village was great!

Where are you ladies taking pictures? I'd like to take some in the village, but would also like somewhere else that is close by.

Lisa
