Official thread for those who have LOST PARENT(s)....
so I dont think we have an official thread for those girls who have lost moms or dads, even both (and I know there are a few )
i thought it would be nice to have our own thread where we can share ideas ... whether it be about memorials for the day of, mother/father dance alternatives etc... I know that you ladies have supported me in the past with my father passing and I hope I can help you girls...
with that being said, any idea for candle memorials? are you making them? ordering them from anywhere in particular? I dont even know where to being - I'd like to include my dad is anyway possible without making it a sad occasion

I am in the early planning stages as of now, but I lost my dad in 2001. I am having my uncle walk me down the aisle, my mom doesn't want to be put in the spotlight and my brother is going to be in the wedding party.
I have thought about doing some kind of candle rememberance thing, but as of now, still not sure of what to do.

2- her rosary beeds around my bouquet or her pearls.. have not decidced yet
3- a piece of her jewelry
4- during our photo montage a pic of us with her and a song to go with it.
5- my bridesmaides are wearing the color dress she has ordered to wear (sage)
6- yellow roses in the flowers for her.. they were her favorite
7- candle from ceremony into reception on the table where she would have been

i think this is a great idea, i lost my dad about ten years ago and this wedding is making me feel like it happened yesterday its crazy. My mom is going to walk me down the aisle no one else deserves to do it but her she has been there for me through everything.. As for the dance I dont think i can dance with FFIL im afraid it will make me upset so im skipping that , but i will have a table with a memory candle in his honor with some pics and i will put something in my program and def some pics for the montage

at this point ...
* my mom is walking me down the aisle, though no one can replace my dad, i cant imagine having anyone other than her since my dad cant be there
* we will have a memorial candle for him with framed photos, also a candle for each grandparent who has passed (I also lost both of my grandpas and 1 gma recently) luckily, FH still have all 4 of his grandparents living )
* instead of father/daughter dance, i am putting together a photo montage to music with the help of my DJ - ill have about 30 pics to music displayed on plasmas during the time we would dance
on a side note - i feel like i want to stop at the cemetery after the ceremony, before the reception, just FH and I.... has anyone else thought about this? FH says we wont have time (and hes prob right) but I go to the cemetery almost every week and I feel like i want to go on our wedding day...

our wedding will be 10 days after the 14th anniversary of my mom dying, and 6 days before her bday. i think the hardest part with the planning was not having my mother there to come with me to look for dresses, get excited for any bit of planning we do. we're def doing a memorial candle, not sure what else though.

I've only maybe been with her like 3years out of my whole life and shes remarried in Korea... I rather have my brother walk me down but people think its not right since hes younger than me and I do have a step father....

Who you want to walk you down the aisle should be YOUR decision. If you are close with your step father than maybe do that. IMO I would have a sibling do it. It doesnt matter that he's younger than you, he's blood!

i think that you need to remember 1 thing - this is your wedding and ultimately this is your decision. you need to do what you feel in your heart. i think that if i were in your position, I would have my brother walk me down. are you close with your step-father? just my opinion, but remember, this is your day and you need to do what makes your comfortable regardless of what others may say or think. you have lost already and they need to recognize how hard it will already be
