Official thread for those who have LOST PARENT(s)....
Original post by KarinAmanda
so I dont think we have an official thread for those girls who have lost moms or dads, even both (and I know there are a few )
i thought it would be nice to have our own thread where we can share ideas ... whether it be about memorials for the day of, mother/father dance alternatives etc... I know that you ladies have supported me in the past with my father passing and I hope I can help you girls...
with that being said, any idea for candle memorials? are you making them? ordering them from anywhere in particular? I dont even know where to being - I'd like to include my dad is anyway possible without making it a sad occasion

my dad's song just came on the radio at work
does anyone have a re-occuring 'sign' as odd as that sounds?
backround - on the day of my dad's funeral, as we were in the limo pulling into the cemetery (following the herse) we heard for the first time 'calling all angels' by train. when i go to the cemetery to visit his grave, no joke, i hear this song probably 8 out of 10 times either on my way there or back.
keep in mind, this is not a popular song and at this point, its about 5 years old. when i hear it, i smile and think of him, knowing hes thinking of me

My dad passed away just before my 18th birthday and I really miss him. As my wedding day approach, I find myself crying more but I find strength from all the beautiful memories we shared. I am not quite sure how I will incorporate him into one of the most special days of my life, but one thing for sure, I am certain that he will be there. I found a link where you can have cufflinks customized with a picture but I guess that would be great for a groom that has lost a loved one.
I have to say that I have an awesome step dad and there is no doubt that he will be walking me down the aisle. However, I have decided to skip the bride/dad dance, as it will be too overwhelming for me.
ohhh i LOVE them, i want to get them for my brother who is getting married in June! Thanks so much for this link

I lost my mother 4 years ago this December 12. My FH never met her.
-Im having the memorial candle at the church. -Im having a picture of her and I on a table next to my table-with pics of her wedding day, FH's parents wedding pic -Im also putting this saying on my programs: -dedicating a song to her for all of us to dance to. Josh Groban's song. -where you are tonight.
In memory of []... Although we can't see you, We know you are here: Smiling, watching over us As we say 'I do.' Forever in our hearts, Forever in our lives — And so we say our vows In loving memory of you.

this alway happens to me when im down and thinking of him. there are a couple of songs that i always remember him by and they always come on in the car or at work i get that lump in my throat and then i just keep thinking of the good memories we had its comforting to hear these songs because its like they 'know' your thinking about them

I have that stuff happen to me all the time. I love it! This is kind of different but...my mom and her brother were really close, like best friends. She had a picture of them dancing together at her wedding that was always in the same spot on the dresser in my dads room. Well after my mom died my uncle had already been diagnosed with cancer but he had been getting reallllly bad. My dad and I were going to fly out to NY to see him and the family in a few months and then 1 day my dad woke me up and said we're leaving tomorrow. In the middle of the night the picture fell off of the dresser out of nowhere. My dad took it as a sign and wow we got there just in time to say our goodbyes.

Speaking of songs, my dad loved the song from Aladdin, 'A Whole New World' and I think I may play it at the wedding as a remembrance.

when i was 16, i went to disney with my aunt, sister and gma. the last night there, i had a dream that i saw my brother driving past my house (he lives in Illinois) so i thought 'why would he be home, something must have happened'. When we got home, we found out that my grandpa passed away the night i had my dream .... weird

something like that happened to me too. I was ten we were in Disney also. My grandmother, who lived with us was staying at my aunt's house while we were gone. The night we got back from Disney I had a dream that my grandmother was in a huge pool drowning and I was trying to save her. I was awoken by the phone ringing telling us my grandmother had just had a heart attack and passed.

It seems so many people get signs that there loved one is with them. unfortunately I haven't gotten any signs from my mom. It's disappointing. I know it's silly. Everyone says 'she with you now' but I wish there was a sign that she was. At least at my wedding I hope she gives me a sign. So silly!!!!

It's not silly. Just thinking that she's with me makes me feel better. So no matter what she's with you if you want her to be

Thank you for starting this thread. I lost my dad 8 years ago and FH lost his dad over 10 years ago. I don't know who's going to walk me down the isle. I was close to my one uncle but he passed away too. I avoided planning this whole memorial thing because it hurts everytime I think about it, especially during the holidays. Please post more pictures, I need some ideas.

Re: Official thread for those who have LOST PARENT(s)....
I admit, planning the wedding has been very hard without my dad here. I find myself thinking that I can't wait to show him/tell him about something wedding related and then I quickly realize that I can't and it breaks my heart. Whats funny though (and I know my dad would be laughing) is that people are actually volunteering ideas about who should walk me down the aisle or even themselves!! Then they get upset when I tell them I've already asked my cousin! Anybody else had to deal with this?

I lost my Dad before I was to be married, so my Brother walked me down the aisle. Debi plans to have a rose for each deceased loved one at this time.To those of you who have lost parents, my sympathy and love to you, and to those who have lost your Dad, I know how it feels. Love to all of you!!!!!!! Mary MOB
at this point ...
* my mom is walking me down the aisle, though no one can replace my dad, i cant imagine having anyone other than her since my dad cant be there
* we will have a memorial candle for him with framed photos, also a candle for each grandparent who has passed (I also lost both of my grandpas and 1 gma recently) luckily, FH still have all 4 of his grandparents living )
* instead of father/daughter dance, i am putting together a photo montage to music with the help of my DJ - ill have about 30 pics to music displayed on plasmas during the time we would dance
on a side note - i feel like i want to stop at the cemetery after the ceremony, before the reception, just FH and I.... has anyone else thought about this? FH says we wont have time (and hes prob right) but I go to the cemetery almost every week and I feel like i want to go on our wedding day...
Karin, I think it would be Special and sweet to stop at the cemetery. My Dad and Baby Brother are buried about a half hour or so away, but when I go, I talk to them. The first yr. after my Brother's death, Mom, and I went to my Brother's grave and I took cupcakes that we ate in honor of his Birthday. All of these things, help me to keep their memory alive.Mary MOB
Here come the tears. Oh how I miss my Daddy and Brother!!!!!!!
