~*~*~*~Ofiicial 08 jewish brides//Checklist~*~*~*~

Original post by jsta76

Since Michelle mentioned there is no official list I figured we could start one. If anyone has any questions/concerns/comments, feel free to ask.

I know there is the mainstream checklist out there but I'm trying to figure out what else we might need for a religious ceremony. I know there is so many things and I don't want to forget anything.

Rabbi/Cantor
Talit
Hebrew names
Kiddush cup
White wine (so you don't spill on dress)
Chupah
Kippahs (yarmulke)/clips/bobbie pins
Ketubah
Glass , bag and some kind of keepsake
Plain wedding band
Challah
Broom or flowered headpiece for mazhinka
Benchers (prayer books)
Vows

Am I forgetting anything?

Here's a pretty good site I found also.

Link

I will update the list if anyone thinks of something I might be forgetting. I figured this would be good for future reference.

Another idea to add to our list, where are you getting everything?

***********************UPDATE**********************
Ok so we met with our rabbi today ...it was an ummmm interesting experience since he has NO clue who I am but I digress. We had no idea what to expect and FH kept on asking me if it would be like the Robin Williams movie License to Wed LMOA.

He suggested us both 'borrowing' rings from family members because it would make them feel inlcluded which was a really nice thought.

Something to keep in mind that we didn't know about...you need to have ALL Hebrew names, myself, FH. my parents and FIL's. Also, our witness's including their fathers.

He requested 2 kiddush cups but i'm not certain why.

Oh and he talked about the auf ruf (no clue how to spell). When I talked to my parents they said that wanted to host one so that will happen the Friday before the wedding.

Something else I learned was that we could write our own vows! I didn't think that was even possible. It's not something i've really seen t other weddings. Unfortunately FH doesn't want to do it.

Plus everything else on this list as well.

Thanks for the site, i'll check it out. I'm having such a hard time finding something since my Rabbi is being strict on what we can order.

What is he asking for?

Has to be written a certain way (cant be round, i think has to be rectangular), prefers a certain artist, certain words (orthodox/english).. Grrrr we found one we really liked (in my album), but he said no, the formatting of it i think is the problem

Hmm thats tough...what artist? I'll help you find something!!!!

Did you look at Ketubah.com? A lot of these sites specifiy what 'sect' of religion.

He didn't tell me 'exactly' what he prefers. He sent me to NYC to a store to look there (he does alot of work at this particular store). We did and didnt like any (the artist is Caspi ?). We dont want floral. Just simple and pretty lol.
I've looked on ketubahketubah.com and ketubah.com.
I think i'll hit up more judaica stores around me (nassau) and maybe ask the Rabbi to go with us. I know its gonna be bad if I do. I dont want him convincing me to get one I dont like.

That's probably the best thing to do....it's hard when you have so many restrictions!!!

I know we also want something plain, simple and preferably inexpensive. We saw one thing we liked but we really haven't focused on this task at length.

Just an FYI, I was told it could take 4-8 weeks to come in. I wish I could just order it without him knowing LOL oh would I be in trouble

UGH i don't even want to hear that since we have 9 weeks! I've heard it usually takes 4...i guess I should drag FH to some of the stores tomorrow. I'm not sure whether I really want to order something so personal online.

We're having problems with the ketubah. Should have ordered it months ago and now we're trying to figure it out.

We might have gotten our yarmulkes tho.

$500 is a little over our price range

I have to call Chai and Mazel this afternoon, they said they might be able to get the one we want. She liked it so much she wanted to put them in the store as well...maybe she'll give me a finders fee LOL

Did you ask your rabbi? Ours had one he would have given us for free...it was pretty ugly but would have done the job if need be.

Good luck!

We're not THAT cheap....we're going to find something, thats not really the issue, just that i don't want to spend $500. Everyones preferences are different.

The one I absolutely love was $120. I think we'll be able to find it...its very simple and gorgeous.

Wasn't implying that you were cheap....wasn't really talking about they money at all, just timing. All I meant was that if you were in a pinch and needed one right away, your rabbi might have one to give you.

Try Yussels Place in Merrick (if its near you). They were very helpful when we went. I think thats where we will order from.

Wow this thread is nice!

We had met with our rabbi a few times over and he didn't say anything regarding kiddish cups and kosher wine until yesterday (mind you I have 19 days to go for my wedding). We're borrowing the cups from FH's mother- she happened to have two.. FH is going to buy kosher wine but (as much as I love our Rabbi) he said it's got to be red!

I was like 'is he kidding'! The Rabbi we have is Orthodox but is Rabbi of a conservative temple so he's kind of bending the rules for a few things.

Anyhow otherwise we got pretty much everything else we need- the ketubah is the one the rabbi is supplying for us- it's very pretty and I'm happy I don't have to spend more $$ for it.

We're hoping to get everything figured out soon andd unfortunately Merricks too far by the time I get out of work, they probably wouldn't be open. If we could wait i'd definetely check it out.

The only places closer to us are Chai and Mazel and Zion Lion.
