Opening the envelopes after the Reception is over:

Opening the envelopes after the Reception is over:

I was wondering what everyone has done or is going to do about this?

Meaning, are you and your DH going to do it together or do you think you will do it with family (either FIL's or parents)...

Girls who are married: what did you do and any bad/good experiences with that way?

Girls who are not yet married: what do you plan on doing?

TIA!!! I'm debating having everyone there just incase people don't give as much as FIL's or my parents 'expect' them to and then it might create bad feelings... anyone have a similar problem?

We are going to do it the next day, just me and FH/. IMO, it is no one's business what people give, that is not the point of the wedding

yeah i definitely see your point and agree... i'm worried b/c i just feel like FIL's will want to know what their guests are giving to 'make sure' it's enough and I'll feel embarrassed for the person if they see what they give and get annoyed at them and then i think it will cause a huge problem.

FIL's have already just assumed they will be there when we open them lol it's like umm, no?

the last thing i want is my mother stating 'but you got XYZ for the wedding, why are you broke?'

My DH and I opened our envelopes the next morning - alone. It is absolutely nobody else's business what anyone gave us.

Re: Opening the envelopes after the Reception is over:

anyone do it another way??

i've been to a wedding where afterwards i saw them go back to their hotel room (i was staying at the hotel too) and I ran into the groom at the ice machine lol and he said that they were in the room with his parents and her parents opening all the envelopes with MOH too...

and it only dawned on me now to think to myself 'yikes, I wonder how that went if someone didn't give as much as someone else thought they should'

and then i started to think about my FIL's b/c they put so much emphasis on that part of it which FH and I could care less about really.

My parents and My In-Laws will NOT be coming back to my hotel room on my wedding night!! Oh my Gawd! Just the thought!

My DH and I will open our gifts alone.

I did it with FH that night. It should be a private thing, IMHO

Re: Opening the envelopes after the Reception is over:

we left for our honeymoon the morning after the wedding, so we sent all the envelopes and gifts home with my parents. a week later, after the honeymoon, my parents picked us up at the airport, we went back to their house where the envelopes were, and we opened them then- just us and my parents.
the only thing my parents cared about was what my aunts and uncles gave us, so that my parents know what to give their kids when they get married.... other than that, it was nobodys business, no snobby comments were made, and everything was good
