Picking Bridesmaids

Re: Picking Bridesmaids

Don't feel obligated to have anyone. It's your wedding and you should put people you want in your BP. You don't want to look back at your pics and regret putting someone in whom you're not close with and asked merely out of obligation. I chose to include friends whom I've known for many years and whom I'm still very close with. I had 3 close friends from high school (1 was MOH), 1 family friend whom I've been friends with my whole life, 2 cousins (1 was my Jr. BM), and DH's sister.

Re: Picking Bridesmaids

I too worried about asking other people whose bridal party I was in then realized that if that was the case, I'd have an additional 6 people in my BP!

I only have four people-
MOH- best friend from college
2 BM's- best friends from HS
1 BM- FH's sis-in-law who I am very close with

I caught some slack from friends who expected to be in BM's but discussed it with them and have found other roles for them. Some family members had fits that their daughters weren't asked...

Don't ask anyone that you don't want to.

Well this is one of the only things I am sure of I have two MOH one is my cousin and best friend that I have been talking to since my aunt was preggo with her, and the other is my sis-in-law that I am truely so close too it's sickening. I also have two FG one is my niece and the other is my neighbors daughter. FH has two best men both my brothers and two RB one is my (sson to be our) son and the other is my nephew. You shouldn't feel obligated to ask anyone your MOH and BM's should be people you love and are close with and trust will be a big help to you on your big day.

Re: Picking Bridesmaids

I have:
1 MOH - my sister

2 BMs - one is my best friend and the other is a very close friend who I couldn't imagine NOT having as a bridesmaid. I was my best friend's MOH and in my other friend's BP.

1 FG - she is the daughter of a close friend. I was her MOH. I would have asked her to be in my BP but I didn't want her to obligate herself to spending all that money (things are tight). So, instead, I am honring her with having her daughter as the FG.

I would have very easily added 2 other friends to the BP, but FI and I wanted to keep it small.

Why would it matter if you didn't ask her husband?!?!??!

We ask ourselves the same question....but...she's one of 'those'... You can NEVER please her. It was a SIN in her eyes that we didn't ask him... She's too much! The stories I could tell you....

and I have 3 BM's..one is from hs, and the other two are from college

3 total.
I am having my two best friends from college and a dear friend I met just after school. I probably would have had two more, but FH wanted a small bridal party.
Oh, and a flower girl.

Re: Picking Bridesmaids

I have 7 (but I just 'fired' one the other day so 6)...

MOH - My little sister
3 BM'S - My 2 other sisters and FH's sister
2 Usherettes - My 2 oldest girlfriends (one I've known since I was 5)

I fired the other one because she's been really b****y lately and not very receptive towards my wedding plans.

IMO, only ask the people you still see in your life 10 years from now. If you don't see yourself talking to them anymore, then they're not important enough to you to have to look at their faces in your wedding pics for the rest of your life.

One Maid of Honor
One Matron of Honor
Three bridesmaids
Two flower girls

I did not choose FH's sisters. I didnt choose MY OWN sisters. I did not choose my brother's wife. I have my reasons. Many people have commented on my choices without knowing my reasons and it is nobody's business. Do what is best for you.

Its a tough situaton, you don't have to ask girl that you were their BMs is just that they assume that you will ask them.
I have 7...i try to have them from my many walks of life

1 MOH sister
6 BMs-friend from High School, friend from college, friend from grad school, childhood friend, co-worker, FH's best friend's (R.I.P best friend) girlfriend.

Re: Picking Bridesmaids

I have 5...plus 2 junior bridesmaids...

My 2 sisters
FH's sister
Best friend (she's been my best friend since birth...our moms took lamaaze [sp?] classes together before our older sisters were born)
My closest post-college friend.

I didn't ask any of my college friends b/c I had 5 roommates and it would have made my BP out of control. I also didn't ask any of my other childhood/high school friends (besides my best friend) because there are 6 of us that have been friends forever. Everyone understood that the sisters and my best friend were 'automatic' and no one was offended. I'm also the first of the group to get married, so I guess there wasn't really a precedent.

You should ask those people who you are closest to right now, and those who you see being your friends for a long time into the future. These are the people who are going to stand up there with you when you make the biggest commitment of your life, so don't think too hard about who you *should* ask...Ask those you really want to have there with you. If you've grown apart from them, or you're not that close, they're probably not expecting it anyway.

HTH!

Re: Picking Bridesmaids

I didn't ask anyone whose wedding I was in except my very best friend since I was 4...it just would have gotten really big. I had two sisters, my cousin, and this one friend.

I say ask who is important in your life now.

Re: Picking Bridesmaids

Pick the people who are closest to you!
I am thinking I will have 6 or 7

My best friend-Matron H
My sister-Maid H
My cousin from Brazil (possible) if she can't make it my cousin from Florida
My Fiance's sister
One of my close friends
My Fiances daughter jr. B

He's asking,
His best friend BM
His bro in law
2 of his good friends
One of my close male friends
his nephew

So if I have 7 he might have to find another friend. We'll see
