Pictures of your house are on the internet for all to see

I'm taking a real estate law class this quarter and the professor told us that he can find a picture of anyone's house through the county assessor's site. Im in chicago and wanted to see if it's true for NY and it is

I just looked up my parents house, neighbors, friends. You'll find info on the size of land, house details, value of home in 02 & 04, even a COLOR photo! Just enter the house number and street

It's a good tool for people house hunting, but a little scary at the same time.

Can't find a site for Suffolk County

WHOA - i looked up 2 people's houses already and they are on there. That is a bit scary.

wow- they even knew my parents have a shed!
twaht's weird is they say 7 rooms, when ther are really 8, but one wall was almost completely knocked down, so i wonder that counts as 1 room. they had to have a permit, so I'm sure all that construction was on file.
They also say it was built in 1943, but my parents said 1939.

I live in Nassau and put in my house address and oh my gosh it is dead on the money. I am like there is no way going to be a picture of my house and clicked on photo and there it was my exact house I am sitting in right now and the picture was dated 2000. OK I am freaked out right now. Why do they do this and why it is available to the public???

Its what your house was assesed (sp) for. This came out a long time ago. My FH dads house is not on there.

It is definitely in the ballpark of what some neighbors houses are going for. There is a 2002 estimate and a January 2004 estimate. I am so shocked.

I honestly don't know why they do this.... I guess the information is public so they figure why not make it available online. If people really wanted to know about any property they can go to Record of Deeds office.

It's one thing to give info about the size of someone's lot, # of rooms, and assessed value, but the color photo is a bit much. They should at least give people notice that they are taking pictures of their homes. I looked up my MOH house and they have a clear pic of her car and license plate #.

Wow her car and license plate number??? It does feel strange that someone was taking a photo of my house without us knowing. You are right about the deed office but you would have to get off your butt and go there this is right on the internet. I know one of the travel websites with driving directions has arial pictures of streets and I could vaguely see my house but this is directly in front.

It's common for them to take a picture of your house when the reasses it.

I live 10 minutes away from a celebrity who works on a soap opera and sure enough I put in her address and her 4 million dollar house is there with floor plans, value, pictures, and all. She actually has 2 pictures. You are right Kristin about the picture when the house is assessed. I guess that is where they get it from. Unless a guy with a camera was walking down the street taking all the pictures. Oh well I guess I have to move on. Definitely good info if you are buying a home.

Could u be talking about Susan Lucci? Im jealous I know what town she lives in but not her address LOL. Its noy cool for it be on the internet. but They take the picture for that reason. So if u see someone snapping picture be nervous but not to nervous.

That's who I was gonna say. I'm an AMC junkie.

All of the pictures I saw were taken in the daytime, the streets are pretty quiet and I guess they assume that most people would be at work.

Yup she does. She also has a house in the hamptons and a place in the city. She is such a nice lady!

Is that just for Nassau because I tried to do a Search for Broome county accessors site and couldn't find one. I live upstate.

I think Susan Lucci lives in the Hamptons.
