Poll - Have you ever heard of this?

Original post by kms71705

One of our friends called called last night and asked if we had ever heard of the bestman paying for the church? He's the bestman in a wedding next year and the 'donation' is $600.00, the groom called him yesterday and told him that it's etiquette for the bestman to pay for the church and if he couldn't pay for it on his own (he's trying to save to buy a home) to ask the groomsmen to chip in.

I've never heard of such a thing???

I've never heard of it! But I guess it depends on whatever your best man wants to do.

I never heard of that, and I think it is rude of the groom to tell the BM he HAS to pay for the church.

Yes! That is very rude and I would think a 'made up' tradition.

I've heard of the best man handling the tips but even then the B&G give him the $. I never ever heard of him paying for the church.

I've never heard of that but I have heard of the best man taking care of the tipping at the church ( the priest / deacon and alter boys)

I thought this meant the best man handed out the tips, not that he actually supplied the cast. FH's brother is in for a surprise.

I have never heard of the best man paying for the church, and furthermore I think it's awfully nervy of that bride and groom to just push that cost onto their best man!! Some people are just out of their gourd.
