Poll: IF you were to move out of NY what would you miss

Original post by WithThisRing

I will miss
White castles
Dirty water dogs
NY pizza
NY Bagels
the smell of the honey nut peanut vendors on the corners in the city (as much as that smell is nasty it definatly will be something I will miss)
Being able to grab cheese fries at 4am
Subways (as nasty as they are its just great that you can get anywhere in 4 of the of 5 bouroughs for just 2 dollars. It may take forever but you can still do it)

Re: Poll: IF you were to move out of NY what would you miss

This thread is making me sad! I'm finding out this week if we're moving to VA - CULTURE SHOCK! (I'm in NYC now...) I have to say though, I'm starting to get sick of the city and I've been craving suburban life since I grew up up-state.

Now that I read all of your posts I'm starting to see what I take for granted!

- the overall excitement of the city
- the fact that we're surrounded by culture
- we have everything within a 1hr drive - city, country, beaches, museums, wineries - you name it, we got it!!!

Oh the noise, how I'll definatly miss that. We have the fire house about 3 blocks from us and the police precient about 6 blocks from us, the cargo train line about 2 blocks from us and I'll definatly miss the noises of all of that.

In my old house if you looked out my back window you saw the A train. I miss seeing that.

Convience will definatly be something I will miss. Where else can you get a hotdog at 11am, a cheeseburger at 3am, cabs at all hours, trains at all hours, and buses at all hours.

Only thing I think I'd miss are some of my friends and my BIL, and depending on where we moved, perhaps some accessibility to shopping variety, and the seasons and what comes with them - snow, autumn foliage, daffodils, etc. Other than that, not much - certainly not the high cost of living.

As for the 'r' that's missing up in Boston - I think it was stolen by Long Islanders - I hate hearing people say Linder, when the mean Linda - seems like that 'r' gets tagged on to a lot of words around here.

we moved to NJ a few months ago. we're about the same distance to the city, which is nice. the only thing i miss (besides my mom!) is the beach. we lived in long beach for a few years & loved it. jersey shore is kind of far for a quick day trip. it used to be 3 blocks away. oh how i miss the beach!

honestly, living in jersey is very similar to living on long island (lots of stores & malls), but less traffic! i love all the trees here, its more suburban, more land.

bagels, pizza, chinese food.

convenience of having all the events on LI and in the boroughs so close.

the beach

the way NY is pretty much 'premier' in all fashion & music trends.

The way you can always find something you want to buy, or figure out how to get it! (Ooops! That sounds kinda bad...Not referring to anything illegal, just material items!

This is what I miss about NY

Our Family and Friends
Seasons - Here in Fl we only have Hot and Humid
24 hour shopping
People who actually know what the gas pedal is for
Central Park
Culture
Food that tastes like it should
People that have teeth
Sidewalks
A Newspaper with journalists that have actually gotten some form of education.
People sitting on the front stoop of there house being neighborly
THE (RF) MALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Being 20 minutes from the Airport
I could go and on........

Re: Poll: IF you were to move out of NY what would you miss

being that I just left NYC I actually realize that there is not much I miss...

**we have found pretty decent bagels and pizza...and there's always a Denny's open...so no problem getting food at any hour...but to be honest...we live a much healthier lifestyle...we used to have our food...and cleaning...and groceries delivered...but now we actually like to get up and do things (nice weather all year helps)

**I live as close to the beach now...as I did as a kid (but now I live 1 mile from the ocean...not the murky cold LI sound)

**shopping...is almost as good...at least as good as Americana...but the rare quirky NYC shops are not abundant

**since we've just left...friends and family are anxiously awaiting to come and visit...and we are closer to DH's family

I can't believe it, but I don't really miss NYC (yet!!)...I thought I would...my friends and family thought I would...but you have to go with what life brings you...

My cousin that visited from Australia many years ago, still miss the Knish she had on the corner of 34th Street. She dreams of them, LOL....

I would miss:
NEW YORK:
Bagels
Pizza
Nasty New Yorkers!
The amazing city itself. There's just no place like it in the world !

I kinda do feel like 'I left New York' when I moved to Suffolk. I need a good long day in the city!

I moved to Virginia about 4 years ago and I miss NY so much .

I miss bagels, semolina bread, good cold cuts, Italians, pizza, NY accents (I get teased a lot and my accent isn't even that bad!), watching the Mets on channel 9 and going to games, the beach, good music (the music here stinks), good clubs (the clubs here stink), NYC (Washington, DC can't compare), people that can DRIVE......

Geez, why am I here?!
