My FI and I have been living together for a year and a half and only became engaged in March. I know a lot of people think that it is wrong and so on. Luckily no one in our families had a problem with it. For me personally, living with my FI makes me that much more sure that he is the one I want to live with forever. I love knowing that he is the one I come home to everyday and vice versa. It made our relationship a lot stronger.

we are living together before we are married... i knew my parents would nt be thrilled but it was best for us , we pay our own bills, and basically they knew we would be getting married so they were 'okay' with it... his parents were fine with it.
You have to do what is best for the two of you! Parents may not be happy about it, but in the end what works for you is most important...they will get over it... you are getting married, its not like you are kids who just met...and are trying to play house.
personally, I think it was the best thing fo us...it wasnt the easiest transition and i would have hated to start off our marriage with the issues we had in the beginning...its just my opinion though, i know many people differ in opinion

I agree. Many people dont really know eachother as much until you move in with them. We dated for 2 years, moved in for 2 1/2 years and got engaged. He is my best friend and i love him, Im so happy i moved in with him(more time together) b/c we really know eachotherr now. And is DOESNT spoil the excitement....we still have so much to look forward to with the wedding and i wouoldnt trade the last two year in for the world. We also bought our first house in September! yey!

I moved in with my FH in Feb '05. We were engaged in Aug 04 and both our jobs are pretty demanding. It made sense for us.
While both of our parents were cool with it, since we are engaged. But his mom has become a little distant from me since then. So I think she may not be as happy about it as she claims.
In the end I know that we're doing what is right for us.

I agree that living together before the wedding is a good idea. FH and I have been living together for 3 years (together for 6) and its great. Not only is it so much fun, but we know each other's habits, have a system for cooking, cleaning, paying bills, etc. So after we are married, we can truly enjoyed newlywed life, and don't have to worry about an adjustment period.

we have lived together sine November, and i can honestly say that it was a smart idea. there are so many little things that you never realize the other person does until you are living with them!!! it really does give you time to get adjusted to living together before your wedding. one less stressful thing to deal with. i think we would be a lot more stressed if we were just moving in together after our wedding. this kinda eased us into the whole thing!!

FH and I have been together for 5 yrs, we moved in together a little over a year ago, we were also housemates back in college. We are very happy living together, his parents doesn't have a problem with it, my mom doesn't, my dad however.. is still in denial ![]()
Personally, I think living together gives us a clearer picture on how it would be like after we are married, so I am all for it.

Well.. we were planning on moving in together in August, but financial situations are holding us back. Its going to be impossible for us to do it and still save for the wedding. I still live at home right now, so its a lot easier to save without the added expense. Soo.. we talked about it and decided we would wait.. we will probably start looking for a place a few months before the wedding.![]()

FH and I each live in seperate apartments. We will live together before the wedding, because it is silly to continue to pay two rents. If we didn't have the double rents we would not live together before the wedding. We will live together this summer, so less than a year before the wedding.

we had the same issue with his mom, and it's been 5 years already that we've lived together and she got over it. You're getting married! She'll get over it ![]()

Call me old fashion and or cheap, but I don't live with my FH. Not only did we not really have the money to support ourselves these last five years together, but our families would be very unhappy. I'm glad we made the choice to not live together. With couples these days doing virtually everything a married couple would (wink wink), it at least provides a little of the traditional symbolism of coming together for the first time and for us that is truly special. To each his/her own. ![]()

Living together has made things so much less stressful for us...both of us work a lot, and it is such a relief to not have to plan time together. Your fmil may give you flack for a few more months, but you probably have to get used to that anyway! Just think of it as training in diplomacy for the future.![]()

We never officially lived together before we were married, but we always stayed over eachother's places (we both lived with our parents prior to our marriage.).
