Public Service Announcement for brides from a wedding party member:

Paying for your 'maids hair & make up is NOT a gift to them. it is a gift to YOU. it puts them out and benefits only you, therefore doo not refer to it as a gift to them, it will only annoy them.

If your wedding is at 4:00 pm, your wedding party is not obligated to be anywhere, etc before 2:00 pm earliest. Anything earlier you need to say please & thank you and be grateful for inconveniencing them.

Splitting up couples is rude. Splitting up married couples is hateful. In order to properly belss your own marriege, you should bless hte concept of marriage. karma will come back & bite you.

If fyou want to do a bouqet toss/garder toss fine. but if you call out your friends after they discreetly & politely decline, you are not a good friend. Hunilation is NOT a bridesmaid requirement! (and yes, many people find it humilating, just cause you don't doesn't mean you get to choose their values)

If you gave a crappy cheap gift to your friends last year, don't complain if you get the same $$ amount back. it doesn't matter that your wedding cost more - daa if you can afford more you NEED less.

Im thinkin of payin for my girls makeup, not for me but for them. & Um , my wedding happens to be later in the day , why wouldn they not want to come early & take pics,, weird chick,,

I think there are some people out there that need to respectfully decline when asked to be a member of a bridal party. You were a choice and it is your choice to say no.

I agree with the garter and bo-k toss and how its humiliating (I've been through the horror myself) and that you should've spilt couples up..why would you want to do that in the first place? I also agree that people shouldn't be expecting to get back what they spent on the wedding...most of us are happy that we're able to celebrate the day with friends and family. But I do have a few issues with the other things you mentioned:

1) Why wouldn't paying for hair and makeup, which can get expensive, be a gift? How does it put the BM's out and benefit me as a bride?

2) A person is ASKED to be a BM...being in a wedding party comes with certain obligations and responsibilites. A person can easily DECLINE when there are asked. If a person says yes to being in a bridal party that means they have, to a certain extent, s u c k it up and deal. If the bride wants her girls to be at her house at noon to get their hair and make-up done so that they can take pictures...what's the big deal? If a person is going to complain then they shouldn't have agreed to be in the bridal party. Of course a bride is thankful that her girls are part of her big day but come on...please and thank you for asking you to come to the house to get ready earlier than 2? You've got to be joking.


If all these things are bothing you maybe you shouldn't be in the bridal party because you obviously don't get what being in a bridal party entails

whatever, it's costing me over $1,000 to be in this wedding party - bride INSISTED on a resturant shower with 50+ guests. INSISTED on a weekend away bachelorette. INSISTED on expensive dress and particular shoes and particular hair pieces.
And you know what, ok I will show up at 8 am for your 4:00 pm wedding and I will endure getting driven 3 counties away to teh reception and then BEING STRANDED because hte couple is only providing transporttion THERE, not back. And I will have a stranger do my ahir & make up.

But I want a 'thank you' not a 'don't you date be late!' and I don't think I was a snob to ask about lunch, since I'll be tied up doing gosh knows what for 8 hours before dinner is served.

It's only a wedding, get over yourselves. the wedding is icing, it's nothing. it's a perk. The important thing is the marriage, so brides need to get over themselves with the 'perfect wedding' idea.

oh and I wasn't asked to be a bridesmaid. i was told I would be (with a not imagined implication that if I declined, we would no longer be friends).
