we're going to get a puppy too when we move. We HAVE to get a hypoallergenic dog bc fh is allergic otherwise to many dogs. So bc of that it will be either a maltese or shitzu and also have to find out what other dogs are hypoallergenic but those 2 i know definitely are.

Theyre both small dogs so it would be good for you plus no shedding since they dont have dog hair

You should also look at Bijon Frise's. I think that's how you spell it. They're a lot like a maltese...so cute and hypoallergenic!

yeah i heard that about them and they are adorable and such sweet dogs...Thanks bc i wasnt 100% sure if they were

Adopt a mutt. They are always the best. I'm all for pure-breeds, but there are so many mixed breeds that need to be adopted too.

I agree! Although you can find young pure-breds in shelters too. We actually had a pure bred 7 month old bull dog, a 3 month old american eskimo, a 10 month old mini-pin and a 6 months old boxer within the last 4 months at my rescue. Its tough to find a puppy since they adopt out very quickly but its possible if you look around.

One piece of advise I will give out is DO NOT buy a puppy from a pet store. Always go to a breeder where you can see how they were raised and where you can see both parents, or at least the momma. They will be 1000 times easier to house break and you chance less health issues. Also make sure the breeder has taken the pups to the vet and given them their first round of vaccines so you dont end up with a pup with Parvo..

I just saw the site...looks great!

We want to adopt but the shelters were not okay with us as our complex is a not pet complex by lease, but they're okay with pets...hard to explain situation.....Love My Puppies in Wantagh is amazing...I think it's the only store I would ever consider buying from. It's not your average store...

I dont want to start the puppy mill debate again, however as someone in the pet industry, I know for a fact most of the puppy stores get their pups off the same truck. Some stores are clean yes, but puppy mills are horrible horrific places and the mommas of those pups are living a life of pure hell.

I love my Shih Tzu! Pics are in my album. My dog is 25 pounds- huge for a shih tzu! Normall they are about 10-15 pounds. They are great because they have long hair, but there hair does not shed and is allergy free! Good Luck!

I also say Shih Tzu. We started out with one, but she's such a great dog that we mated her and kept 3 out of the 5 puppies. They are so well behaved and friendly. When I move out, I want to get my own Shih Tzu

I know and I understand that completely.....I've been in those places and they're awful. There are some stores, like Love My Puppies, which are amazing places whcih allow you to meet the puppy's parents, get full info, etc....not all stores are puppy mills. Not saying they're all great but some are.

Shelters can be frustrating. My FH and I were at a petsmart one day and someone abandoned 2, 3-week old kittens. We took them with the intention of taking them to Anti-Cruelty Society so they could be fostered. Anti - Cruelty refused to take them and told us that if we left them that they would be put down, because it is so much work to bottle feed them. We were pretty shocked and had to foster them ourselves until we found them a new home. Thank god for PAWS who worked hard to help us find them a home and taught us all the things we needed to know about hand-raising kittens. One of our cats is from anti-cruelty, but I wont go there anymore

Hmm I never heard of them, although unless i saw the pups nursing off the momma, or saw the momma was still full of milk i wouldnt trust it was the mom. I have heard of shops (well a certain shop) purposely passing off one breed as another since they were out of the one the couple came in for. For example a couple came in for a cocker-poo and the store of out of cocker-poos so they just grabbed any pup that looked like a cocker-poo, changed the paperwork, and sold it as one...

Unfortunately most shelters are completely over whelmed. Our shelter at peek kitten time had over 30 kittens being bottle fed.. And only 3 people to do it. Which is why it is so important to spay and neuter! And to adopt rather than buy.

I totally understand...I was just frustrated that they were very rude and absolutely no help at all.
