Hi Everyone! Happy Tuesday!! My FMIL came back from Ohio from periodic visits..So this made me think for todays QOTD..
How was it meeting your FH's family for the first time? Any horror stories? Really nice stories?
His parents are separated so I met his dad that lives here first, I was a bit hesitant but thank goodness everything went well, he's a serious guy but very sweet. Then I met his mom a couple of months later in Ohio on our way to a Jets vs Colts game, which went well as well, but I'm not too close with her since she's hardly here. But thank goodness my mom stepped up as a mom for him, and he loves her just as much as I love her, which makes me super happy! Then meeting his brothers & GF's were good too..but it took a few times of hanging out for me to get close to the gf's and now they are like my BFF's. No horror stories & nothing out of the ordinary that I can think of.

FH's whole family are just great. Very friendly, very accepting of me, and I really love spending time with them. His sisters are all from his father's first marriage and they are older but super cool. He also has a bunch on nieces who are just a bit younger than me so that's a blast at family parties too.
FH's parents I met while we were first dating, one of the first times I was at his apartment (now our apartment downstairs from his parents) he brought me up to say hi and meet them, I remember talking a million miles a minute (nervous!) and his mom telling me she's heard a lot about me. It was nice.
Fast forward to now, we still live below them so it's sometimes a bit much to have your fil's there alll them time ( I haven't lived at home in 12 years so having parents around is rough lol) but they are sweet so I try my best to be patient.
No horror stories except for when his BIL gets wasted he makes jokes about my boobs..and even that's not even a big horror we all just laugh it off and I tell him hes a drunk creepy old man and he goes 'yup' lol

I actually met FH's mom before I even met him! FBIL married my friend from college, so I had met him a million years ago! The morning of their wedding I did my friends makeup as well as FMIL... she LOVED the way I did her makeup and kept telling me that I made her feel like a million bucks. Later on I met FFIL and FH at the reception! FMIL was more than thrilled that we were so smitten together at the reception that she actually mouthed the words 'I love you' from across the dance floor... to ME! hahahaha Needless to say, they love me and I love them!

Mine was literally like a dream. FH's family is so so amazing and I'm so grateful that they are. We're both European so I'm definitely comfortable with the family dynamic, a family dinner can have anywhere from 4 to 42 people on any given night, and they're all close like glue! Me & his mother just clicked from the second we met. I'm a wallflower when I first meet people so I was a little shy at first, but now they're like my own family.
I was somewhat grandfathered in because our families already knew each other. My FH and brother were friends throughout high school and played soccer together, so our parents already knew each other. FMIL loves telling the story how she remembers me running around the soccer field when I was just a baby, then suddenly I appeared at her door all grown up. She was SO excited that we were dating, everything just fell together perfectly.
I make fun of FH and call him a cradle-robber, I say he was watching me all those years ago, hahha. Poor guy.
PS. He's not really a cradle robber, we're only 3.5 years apart, hahha. Just so no one calls the police.

I met them when I was 15 when we were *just friends*. After we began dating a few months later, it eased into a comfortable relationship with them (to a point). His family and I are very close now and I'm excited to officially join their family next year!

His mom surprised us and stopped by his dad's house one day when FH and I were just laying around watching TV.. she came in and kept telling me about how she loved to dance and she gave me a big hug and kept saying how I looked like a doll and said 'Welcome to the family!' she was in-love with me from day 1... so was FH's father and sister haha.. which his sister has never liked any of his GF's and me and her are growing into BFF's.. we even are starting to work together with her business! FH's father adores me too.. I guess I'm just the nicest girl he's brought home! lol My family loves FH too, my grandma especially omg is she INLOVE WITH HIM! they take care of one another when they drink haha.. FH and I were a little nervous because I'm American and FH and his family are from Colombia but my Spanish is getting better and our families really are like one big one! We couldn't ask for more!

I met FH's family for the first time at a wake for his great aunt. it was totally overwhelming. However, FH's family is a big, wonderful group of people so it wasn't a horror story, but it was definitely uncomfortable - especially since i felt like I met 100 people that day and you have to remember the setting - couldnt say 'It's so great to meet you finally!' so it was a lot of 'I wish we were meeting under better circumstances.'
I haven't thought about that in forever. haha, way to time travel this morning.

I have been with FH since we were 18/19 so I met his parents right when we first started hanging out, because we both lived at home. I feel as though I grew up with them, they are my second set of parents! They have seen me happy, sad, sick, everything! Extremely comfortable with them.

I met FH's parents during Christmas time a few months after we were dating (2010) I was SOOOO nervous because FH would tell me how rocky his relationship was with him mom and I was like oh boy she is going to hate me but we met and had a GREAT time! FH was being over dramatic about his mom. She had suffered from breast cancer for the majority of FH's life but was in remission for quite some time. We had a great time and I felt like she may like me I wasn't sure, she was definitely a hard read. She got very sick again and throughout all of the time with her I felt us bodning. I remember one party, she asked me to come sit next to her so she can show me her wedding album and pictures of FH as a baby. It was a truly special moment between us because she wasn't the overly sensitive mushy type but in that moment she was. FH's mother passed away Jan 12' and FFIL told me that they had many of conversations of how she approved of me for FH and knew our relationship was leading to marriage and she was happy. It melted my heart to know that. I loved her even though I had limited time with her. She is my mother in law, I miss her and love her and truly do feel her presence with us. As far as FFIL goes he is the nicest, sweetest most generous man around. He truly has become a father to my and I adore him!
I was petrified to meet FH's family, but I kind of met them piece by piece, lol. In one day (about 2-3 weeks into dating), I first met his younger sister, and then his mom and older sister. Everybody made me feel welcome immediately and I loved them all. It was SO different from the general reservedness of my family and I always took to them for that. I met his dad a couple of weeks later since he wasn't home the night I went over there and I wasn't as nervous since I was in with the others by then, LOL. I ADORE his entire family and they love me back and it's just a nice feeling.

I met my FH's family pretty early on. One month after he asked me to be his GF, we went out to lunch with his parents and his aunt and uncle who are all very sweet. They were excited their son finally bought a girl home..lol. His last GF he brought home was few years ago and they dated 8 years. Prior to dating me he dated a girl for one year but didn't bring her home for it was nothing serious. I felt special he brought me home to meet his parents so early on! =)

I actually don't even remember meeting them for the first time haha. It was over 4 years ago and they're totally my second family so it's like I've known them forever. I feel so lucky to have awesome future in-laws.

So I have only been in Long Island for three years, and I have no family or relatives here. A few months after we started dating, Adam asked me if I wanted to have Thanksgiving dinner with his family. I was sooooo nervous, and after spending a few hours deciding what to wear, I anxiously headed to dinner with FH. He assured me that his mom and grandma are really nice and would love me, but I had never met the family of any guy I dated (there was only one guy before FH which wasn't that great to begin with). His mom and grandma were the nicest people I'd ever met, and to this day, they take so much care of me. FH and I go to their house every Sunday for Sunday dinner. They even send home food for me if I'm studying for exams or something. I always tell FH that I am so lucky to have him and his family in my life. Can't wait to be a part of their family!

I love the holiday's too! FH's family does Christmas eve and mine does Christmas day. Neither of our immediate families do Thanksgiving because everyone goes somewhere so we go to my cousin's out in the hamptons and it's kind of like our own little tradition!! We do Easter morning with his family and nieces then out to my families for a day out east!
