Do you plan to live on LI long-term? Does your family live on LI? Your FH/DH's family?
Why or why not? If not, where would you go?

FH and I can not afford to stay on LI if we have a family. We are hoping that he can get a transfer down to the Carolinas a year or two after the wedding.
FIL's are not happy about this!

I would love to move to North Carolina, but for know we arent going anywhere. I think if the opportunity comes we would move. It depends if there was a job opportunity down there.

FH would love to be living up in Westchester somewhere. But his job keeps him here on LI and Queens. If it was up to me i'd be living in Southern California.
So I guess the end result is yes, we are staying on LI long term (unfortunately). Can't really afford it but he has a great job that he can't give up.

well i dont even live in LI lol but actually we found out that by November DH will be taking over all LI jobs. His company does the city and LI, well they actually have offices all over the world. The guy who is in charge of all of LI is going elsewhere so they are giving it to DH so bc of this we will move there soon although we had no plans of doing so right now. I wanted to stay in queens for a bit, wanted to stay close to the city and then later on in life move to LI. It will save us some money though bc its a bit less expensive than the areas in queens we wanted to stay in
When i have kids and its time for them to go to school i will figure out where i prefer to live. Theres pros and cons about any place when it comes to kids lol

I actually LOVE New York and cannot imagine living anywhere else. ALL of my family, friends, my church, everything I KNOW is here, so I wouldn't want to leave.
I'd rather have a small house and have my family/friends able to come over all the time then a huge house far away.
(by friends I do NOT mean Dana. Shes never invited over)

Thats how i personally feel too. I mean yeah we can move elsewhere and get a HUUUGE house for an amazing price compared to NY prices. But then i think, would i like the environment around me, we wont have our closest and dearest friends around us or our families. So sometimes when you buy a house i feel its not just for the house itself but also everything around you.

That's only b/c I'd die in her house. Unless she put her animals in their own living quarters far away from me

Definitely staying on Long Island for a while. We are looking at buying a summer house in Florida so I can escape every few weeks.

please dont quote
DH and I are dealing with this situation right now... I have job offers in NYC and in the city we live in now. COL is way lower here, but my whole family lives in NY (his here). DH likes NYC and is fine with moving to NY for a little while, but doesn't really want to live on LI... and would want to leave NY when we have kids. I'd rather stay here a little longer, and then move back to NY. The thought of being away from my family when we raise kids is making me really upset.

i would be upset too, i want my kids to know their grandparents and i want our parents to be able to enjoy their grandkids and have great relationships with them. That is why its important for me to have our parents nearby. Not right next to us lol but same state hahaha

we dont live in LI we live in SI BUT we have plans to get the hell out of NY my FH can transfer down to the Orlando office and we can get a house close to my moms....not sure how we will like it but its worth a shot....we both want a nice house and it would be nice to be close to my family, and when we decide to have kids it will be A LOT easier than if we stayed here....im torn though - excited to move and sad to leave....we put an offer on a house but still havent heard anything yet - part of me wants it really bad but at the same time im afraid of what will happen if we do get it

This has been a question we've been contemplating for a while. DH loves open spaces, trees, grass, big backyards, and would idealy LOVE to live in the poconos or upstate. I am a city girl through and through. Grew up in queens my whole life and totally take advantage of the city when I can. DH hates the city. We are now living in Long Island City and surprisingly.he LOVES it.
We're here for at least a year...then who knows...maybe stay, maybe get a house in LI, maybe move to PA, where I have tons of family.
I'll be sad to move away, but we won't be too far and you really have to think of the kids..when we have them..

LIC is where i want to move hahaha stay there lol.
Dh has a house in the poconos and its great as a getaway for the weekend once in a while but definitely would not be able to live there. seems like youre also a city girl so i think you would feel the same way as I do. Has your dh gone to the poconos and stayed for a bit there to see if he would really like it?

Yes, definitely! Although it is extremely expensive to live here, I couldn't imagine leaving my whole family behind. If they all picked up and moved across the country one day, I'd definitely go with them though. We are very close.. we all live in the same town and FH and I purchased a home there so we aren't going anywhere anytime soon!

Do not plan on leaving LI any time soon. All our family either lives on the island or in queens. Neither one of us could bear to leave LI, let alone NY!!!

We are moving to New Hampshire probably in fall of 2009. NY is too expensive. I want to be able to give my kids vacations, help pay for their college, etc - and I don't think I can do that here. I am very sad about leaving my family, but I am not very far and I will make it a point to see them every month or so.

Re: QOTD: 9/4/08
its funny bc i dont want to move to another state at all. But meanwhile if i could i would move to europe temporarily just a year or 2. When we were in spain it was funny bc dh said lets move here for a bit and i would've done it in a heartbeat. His company has an office in spain so it would be easy for him. Luckily his company has offices all over the world so we'd have many options hahaha.

Fh and I still live with our parents in Queens. We plan on possibly buying a condo in queens for 2-3 years and then selling and buying a house upstate in Orange County... I can't picture raising my kids in an apartment setting. I want them to have their own room, a big backyard with a pool with plenty of room to play where I know it is safe. PLUS its sooo much more affordable!
