we went to a wedding this weekend where there was no recieving line. We arethinking of skipping it and getting to a lot of people at the cocktail hour - any opinions?

Re: receiving line
I didnt think I wanted one because of the time factor but I have to say I am really glad that we had one. It was really nice to great everyone and accept their congratulations and good wishes. It was really a nice way to end the ceremony. I would have missed the people showed up at the church that were not invited to the reception.

Re: receiving line
We skipped ours at the church b/c we wanted to take pictures before the sun went down. (My parents are still mad at me but oh well).
We made sure to make our rounds during the reception and also ended up having one at the end of the night when people were saying good-bye.

Re: receiving line
I dont know how smoothly you can do this if you get married in a church. My friend was not planning on having a receiving line, and her photographer was getting shots of her and her husband inside the church- as they were leaving, guests starting falling into a receiving line, even though the photographers asst has announced that they were not having one. Most people are used to this, and will start to line up to say hello, wish you well, etc. I hope we do not get stuck in a receiving line, but I am building in the time into the wedding timeline just in case.

Re: receiving line
what a great idea to include a blurb in the program, that way people can get on with the cocktail party
