Sad: today at work,

Sad: today at work,

One of my coworkers was ringing up a customer (yeah I work in a supermarket) the person started screaming at her for double scanning her donuts and the cashier had a seziure. She feel and hit her head on the register counter. I feel so bad. They had to take her out in an ambulance. This is why people shouldnt be so nasty.

While it's sad that something happened to your coworker, I hardly think the irate customer was to blame for the girl having a seizure...And if that is the case, maybe she shouldn't work in retail!

Re: Sad: today at work,

She has epilepsy and having an uncle who has epilepsy I am pretty sure that she could have been having an attack from being yelled at which could have caused the seziure!

I too used to work retail, it's not easy... you do catch a lot of heat just for a simple mistake.

I hope your co-worker recovers quickly and that customer should be ashamed of him or herself!!!

However, while I do make an extra effort to be nice to cashiers no matter where I am...I have run into more than a few that deserve to be yelled at... some are just plain rude.

Oh man, that poor girl!

Seizures come about from a variety of things and conditions that add up.

It could have easily been adding up in her system, and the added stress of that person yelling at her set her off.

Noooooooo...
People are rude...What are you going to do?!
You don't know what was going through the mind of person who yelled.
I could understand if her co-worker was wearing a sign that said: 'I'm epileptic and if you yell at me, I will have a seizure' THEN maybe she would be to blame...But really and truly...I'm not saying anyone should get yelled at for double scanning donuts...But really...If you were allergic to animals would you work in an animal shelter?

I agree, she should also look into whether flashing lights from the scanners are a trigger too.

see now that makes more sense

the first way you said it sounded a little harsh, under this context, it's clearer to me

We've been thinking a lot alike for the past couple of days.

Re: Sad: today at work,

OK honestly there are no Flashing lights on a scanner. This isnt a video game from Japan. I was just stating how bad I felt for the poor girl. Maybe PEOPLE SHOULDNT BE RUDE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT PROBLEMS SOMEONE HAS. The lady couldnt have said You scanned my donuts 2 nicely? She screamed it so loud that everyone turned around.

Hmm didn't think of that.

But I do know that stress most certianly is a factor.
My friend in college got one right in the middle of class while taking a final. But also- she was run down from studying, forgot her medicine, and had her period.

I know a girl who in High School use to get made fun of every day and had a seziure right after someone said something to her but maybe she shouldnt have gone to school.

my only other contention is that no matter what someone is feeling, doesn't give them the right to be rude to someone else. There are plenty of days where I'm capable of snapping at someone -- I don't because it's disrespectful

I'm sure the lady didnt want the girl to have a seizure, but there is no reason to act like that

i mean, these were only donuts

I agree...There's never an excuse to be rude...But on the same token, you don't know what that lady was going through either...You don't know if the guilt she is experiencing for what happened is consuming her so badly that she is home attempting suicide at this very moment...

Epilipesy is something totally different from an allergy.
