Saks for bridal gown? Barney's? etc?

Has anyone gone dress shopping at Saks in NYC? What was your experience like? Also, any feedback on the Amsale store, Bergdorf, or Barney's? I'm trying to get in some more dress trips before I make my final decision. Thanks!!

Re: Saks for bridal gown? Barney's? etc?

I stopped into Saks- they were nice enough.. but all my friends who have been there, have nothing but negative things to say.. Apparently, very mean and rude.

Bergdorff's I would skip. It was nothing like I thought it would be. Their dresses were in terrible condition and the bridal salon was so not nice. Saks was MUCH nicer.. They probably carry all the same designers-- but, if you are looking for someone specific- I would still go.. But, I was NOT impressed.

Amsale was great-- work with Vossa. I worked with her- and someone who I know who got her dress there worked with her... Their dresses are amazing. I thought I was going to end up with Amsale- but, her dresses just didn't cut so well for my body.

I can recco some other places in the city if you like- this is basically only where I looked- beside Kleinfeld.

Re: Saks for bridal gown? Barney's? etc?

Saks is DEFINITELY worth going to look at. I went with mom and some BM's - I would have bought there BUT the dress I feel in love with was at Priscilla of boston.

They brought me into a HUGE room - there was an amsale trunk show the day I was there.

The lady came in and said I know what would look good on you lets start and then we can work from there.

She brought out EXACTLY the style I was looking for. She must have brought out 50-60 dresses we were there for almost 2 hours. I saw everything from Tomasina, Bagle Mishka, Amsale, Christos, etc. Then she showed me a book and had me show her styles I liked. They have a wonderful collection and dresses in all price ranges. I went to Kleinfields later that day and found the few dresses their shared were anywhere from $200-1k MORE than saks wanted.

Saks will cut you 10% off is you open a charge card. They will SHIP the dress to NJ and back to NY to save you sales tax, and if you plan right - saks has sales where if you buy say $200 you get a $50 gift cert -

I was not impressed w/ the service or the 'ambiance' so to say @ Saks - My friend got her Amsale there and the only plus I can think of is if you open a Saks card, you get 10-15% off..........

I went to Saks and had an okay experience. They had we waiitng a long time for my appt, but the lady I had was nice and spent a lot of time with me. I found two dresses i really liked, but the next day went to Kleinfelds and found THE dress.

On my lunch break went to Bergdorf's during a sample sale - their salon was not what I expected. I wouldn't recommend.

Didn't get to Amsale.

Good luck!

SKip Bergdorfs - stuffy and disappointing.
If you go to Saks - get camille she is AMAZING.

If you go to Amsale - get Vossa. ALso amazing!

I have the same exact comments. I had Vassa at Amsale and she is so sweet! She doesn't pressure you into buying something you're not sure about and tells you that there are no 'buts' in your wedding gown. I also had Camille at Saks and she is wonderful!

My experience at Bergdorf was not as enjoyable. I also wasn't impressed by their dress selection.
