since this is a wedding website - what is your opinion on same sex marriage?
our president is against it...and he says that you are too...what is your opinion?
A strong America must also value the institution of marriage. I believe we should respect individuals as we take a principled stand for one of the most fundamental, enduring institutions of our civilization. Congress has already taken a stand on this issue by passing the Defense of Marriage Act, signed in 1996 by President Clinton. That statute protects marriage under Federal law as the union of a man and a woman, and declares that one state may not redefine marriage for other states. Activist judges, however, have begun redefining marriage by court order, without regard for the will of the people and their elected representatives. On an issue of such great consequence, the people's voice must be heard. If judges insist on forcing their arbitrary will upon the people, the only alternative left to the people would be the constitutional process. Our nation must defend the sanctity of marriage.
The outcome of this debate is important -- and so is the way we conduct it. The same moral tradition that defines marriage also teaches that each individual has dignity and value in God's sight.

I could care less. If 2 people love each other and I mean any 2 people whatever sex they are, who are we to say if they should be together or not. I do not believe in what the president has to say about this.

I believe that love is love, whether it is heterosexual or homosexual. Gay couples should have the option of having their relationships validated in a legal sense for the same reasons that hetero couples would.
From a practical standpoint, marriage provides certain benefits and protections. Healthcare benefits are the most obvious. Also, should one person become sick or injured, the unmarried significant other has no legal say in the care and treatment of their loved one. I am sure there are financial benefits and entitlements also.
I think the point of offense with alot of people is the use of the word 'marriage'. Instead, maybe they could be called 'legal unions' or something. Not very romantic, but if it's just a matter of somantics, it may help to appease both sides.
I wonder, what are these so-called 'great consequences'?
President Bush is a raging homophobe, isn't he?

Oh, Erica, do not get me started.
DH insisted on listening to some of the State of the Union last night and that is exactly the part that I heard. Bush made it sound like judges are forcing heterosexuals into marrying homosexuals. Forcing its will upon us. Please. Why shouldn't same sex couples be protected by the marriage laws the same way that we are?? What are the Republicans so afraid of.
I also enjoyed how Bush boldly stated that drug use among high school students is down 11%. What is he basing that on??? And lets not forget that the only way we can prevent teenage pregnancy is to teach high school students ABSTINENCE Good luch with that one...

I watched the State of the Union address up until that point and then I was looking for things to throw at the TV so I switched to RW
What is the big freakin deal? How do 2 homosexuals getting married affect my life one way or another? It doesn't! It's none of my business what people I don't know do with their private lives. Preventing gay marriages just perpetuates discrimination.

I think they should be allowed to get married. What is the big deal. I need a hear a real argument why they shouldn't. And Bush saying we should respect the institution of marriage is defintely not a good one. He should look at how st8 people are respecting the institution of marriage with the divorce percentages out there. geeeeeesh

IMO, gays should be allowed to marry.
I'm gonna leave it at that. If I think about that SOTU address anymore, I'll get as riled up as I was last night. It's too early in the day to get p'd off.

I think that homosexuals should absoultely be 'allowed' to be married.
Also- I think the idea of using a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage is ludicrous.

I would like to hear the opinions of the people who voted no.
I think love is love and gay people should be allowed to be married. If we think about it interracial marriages used to illegal and that has changed.

If two people love each other and want to commit themselves to each other and share each others lives, why does it matter what sex they are? I personally don't see a problem with it whatsoever.

Amen!!!
We have a close family memeber who is gay. She is in a long term comitted relationship. They have been together for 13 years own a home together and have 2 children. They are married in every sense of the word and are very happy!
Who the hell does Bush or anyone else for that matter think they are to say what is right and what is wrong? Love is most certainly love. No matter what sex, religion or color.

I'm one of the ones who voted no. I don't know...Maybe I'm traditional, maybe I'm old fashioned...I just don't think it's right... I thought gay marriages already do occur-is it that they are just not officially recognized? I don't understand exactly what the fight is about... I had a boss who was married to a man...And I do have friends who are gay...I don't mind it...But why make it official? On a seperate note...I actually don't think it's fair to be able to put your same sex partner on your medical insurance...That part just makes me crazy... Where are the lines going to be drawn? What is next?

I voted yes! The smug little monkey man should mind his own f*cking business. I somehow doubt he's being propositioned by any homosexuals who want to marry him. So what's it to him what other people do? Stay the f*ck out of people's bedrooms, homes, and hearts!

Why shouldn't a same sex couple who are in a committed relationship have the same rights as you do when you are married to a partner of the opposite sex?

Ciminok, I guess the difference between those who voted yes and those who voted no is that those who believe homosexuals should have the same marital rights don't see a line, whereas those who oppose it are always trying to find a place to slap that line down.

But what are you assuming they deserve to be treated any differently than you and I? That's the difference....you see them as seperate from us, whereas people who voted yes, don't.
