So much drama about my wedding date.........

Original post by jessicaNmike2008

I rarely post on here but I do lurk now and then, but I need to vent. I'd ask for advice but I don't really know if there is anything I can do at this point.

Basically, one of my 'friends' has been with her boyfriend a little over a year and wants to get married on our wedding date (9/20/08) because it will be their 2 year dating anniversary. We got engaged January 07 (when they had been dating just a few months) and knew we wanted to have a September wedding. Our hall was only available on certain dates, so we picked the one that worked best for us.

We didn't think it would be an issue at all, and to be honest we didn't even know that was their dating anniversary. I'm not trying to be mean but this girl has a new boyfriend every few months so we weren't expecting anything to last.

Now, THEY ARE NOT ENGAGED YET but she seems to think they will be soon (her birthday is coming up). She also wants our date and is fuming that we would get married on their anniversary. I don't know that they are going to get engaged and that they will have time to plan a September 08 wedding, but it's too late for us to really change anything. Our vendors are booked, etc.

I'm afraid she's going to get engaged and then set her date the same as ours. We have a lot of mutual friends. She's also making me feel horrible because she said even if they dont do a September 08 wedding I'm stealing her special day and their anniv will always remind them of our wedding and not themselves.

I never expected this to spiral out of control this way. Am I wrong here?

Ridiculous, I would be angry too and your friend is being very inconsiderate. Our anniversary is sept 22 and we had a wedding this past 9-22 and we didnt care we went had a great time and did our anniversary the day before/after. I wouldnt even worry about it. They wont have time to plan a wedding in 6 months anyways.

Although this may very well be her anniversary date, she still has other options. We are getting married on the date that we planned our first date. If we got married on our first date it would be my birthday.

It seems as if she is trying to get a rise out of you. What she does is beyond your control. Your date is set and that's that. Your friends should really commit to what has already been planned-not what may happen.

Your date has been set and is currently the reality. If she is truly a friend and grown-up she would let it go.

Um your 'friend' is being an idiot. My wedding day is my very good friends dating anniversary and the day after her bday and she doesn't really care. If your friend does end up having ehr wedding the same day, people whoare your real friends will think she is a b*tch for doing this and will go to yours. So she will only be making herself look like an a-hole.

wow. if she mentions it again i would just tell her that she is being unreasonable as she doesn't own that date and that you were not aware it was her anniversary. if she still b*tches then tell her you don't expect her to come, but that you thought your friendship meant more than this

I agree with all the ladies here, and if you haven't already, I'd send save the dates immediately!

this girl sounds like she's a few french fries short of a happy meal. Don't worry about it, you were engaged first, you picked your date first, who in their right mind (unless they were stalking her) would even think they shouldn't get married on a particular date because it is her DATING anniversary? Who cares?! She might be committed before she actually gets married, I wouldn't be worried.

Very well put!!! The girl is INSANE and I would definitely ignore her. Who the hell cares when she started 'dating' someone?!?! Let her get engaged first and then she can talk weddings. And as far as inviting her, if you sent her a STD then I would just send her an invite.. but definitely do NOT give her any more attention on this matter.

I'm so sorry your friend is behaving like this. What an immature reaction she is having! I agree with all the other ladies on here...she doesn't own the day. I am getting married on my best friend's date anniversary and they are excited to come to the wedding (she is a BM) and think its great that we are starting our married lives the same day they started their relationship. They are already married, but they still always go out to dinner to celebrate the beginning of their relationship. I'm also getting married the same weekend as my brother's 1 yr anniversary and neither him nor my SIL seem to think I did something horrible by picking that date. Your friend needs a reality check.

Re: So much drama about my wedding date.........

Absolutely NOT!!! You and FH did nothing wrong. Are you expected to know every one of your friend's dating anniversaries? Is she kidding? I don't even know when my own is... We are getting married Memorial Day weekend-that is my cousins wedding anniversary (she got married 12 years ago) and two relatives birthdays. Obviously we didnt know that/remember that when we set the date but even if we had- I don't think we would have changed anything. They are all happy for us and have expressed how nice it will be to celebrate their day with us at our wedding. I think your friend is the one that sounds like the spoiled brat!!! Not you. And being all of your 'mutual friends' probably already know your wedding date and everything- they will think she is the crazy one-not you. So don't worry,. You did nothing wrong (IMO).

she sounds a bit mental! Do not let this stress you out at all. You've been planning your wedding! BTW, we are date twins. Where are you getting married?!!?

Re: So much drama about my wedding date.........

Tell her to get a grip and welcome her to the real world and inform her it does not revolve around just her~!~ I wouldn't even give this a second thought. She is the one who will look stupid if she plans her wedding the same day as you and you guys are supposed to be FRIENDS! The girl isn't even engaged correct?

Wow, talk about selfish! She's not even engaged! She really has some nerve! You need to continue planning YOUR wedding and not worry about her. I mean it's the end of February, and if she thinks she's going to get married this year in September, she is going to have a really hard time finding a hall!

she isn't even engaged. And if she were to try to plan a wedding for your date because it is her anniversary she will be the one looking like a pop tart.

If you have mutual friends and they are torn between the two, you may have to clean house and get some new friends.

have you sent STD's?

If not, do it ASAP. That way EVERYONE knows you had this dasy 1st, regardless of who else wanted it!

Makes me wanna run screamin when I hear BS like this!

kind of strange and nervy especially becuase she isnt even engaged yet - never knew their was a disclaimer on booking your wedding date because a friend may have a dating anniversay dont you dare change your date

Re: So much drama about my wedding date.........

Wow I'm sorry you are going through this. Like so many people have said she sounds like she is jealous. She doens't own that date and she should be happy for you! It's sad that some people have to act this way.

Re: So much drama about my wedding date.........

After thinjking more about this girl, and what she said to you, it makes me even more mad

Most people do not get married on their dating anniversary. Its sometimes impossible because it will fall on a monday or tuesday etc.

If she does get engaged, which to be honest i highly highly doubt she will, cause im sure this guy can tell what a nut she is...and she makes her wedding day on your day, well that is just the most absurd thing ever.

People who are eachothers friends dont do that, aquiaintences dont even do that...its not normal.

Good Luck but i would loose this girl so fast she sounds like a real drama queen
