Terry Schiavo's parents

Original post by RedHead

Stopped the pursuit to have Terri's feeding tube put back in!

Finally this woman will be at peace...sad but yet comforting

I believe the morphine actually speeds up the dying process. .

I'm not sure that's exactly true.

To be specific, she received a morphine and potassium chloride mixture administered from hospice, which definitely speeds the dying process.

Ah, gotcha

He is such a dirt bag.

Who?

her scuzy husband

Exactly.

It's one thing to finally win the whole battle, but now to insist on cremation- it's a little weird to me.... PLUS- why can't she be burried with her family?

that is what terri's parents are worried about that the drip will speed up dying..that doctors will give her too much

How much background do you all have on the Schiavo case?

I don't understand why they would want a more prolonged death.

and her family said that they don't have it in them to go to court and fight another battle...they want to concentrate on her last days at this point. Imagine though..and her ashes will be with his family...he sounds nutty

they don't want her dying period...if everyone is telling them that she feels nothing..then they probably don't understand why she needs the drip...

I do know that the morphine drip helps speed things up they gave it to my uncle when he was dying. It makes the organs slow down.

No doubt...people are already stalking his house...you think he'd do the right thing since he has children of his own. I hope he's never in that situation oneday

Then they should really read up on some medical journals and consult with her doctors. She is dying, they are no longer contesting having the feeding tube reinserted. It's just a matter of how long it will take and under what conditions.

Just out of curiousity..DO YOU have a health care proxy or a DNR? I bet NOT. Why would you think this woman had one....I am 31 and i don't have one. (at least not yet). This case is an eye opening experience. I bet even if she would have had one it...she would have left it as the husbands decision.

I was just reading some of the earlier posts and what you wrote here is again, close to my heart. People of our age generally do not have health care proxies or DNR's but I guarantee they will now. Considering the fact that I will be married within the year, I don't find it necessary to have a DNR or health care proxy as a single woman. If I were not to be married so soon, I most certainly would, especially considering that my mother would be my next of kin. My sister would be named as my health care proxy if I had no marriage plans. Having already lost a child in infancy, and soon to lose her husband, I know in my heart mom would not be able to let go if I needed to be kept alive via machines/tubes of any sort. I couldn't blame her - parents can't let go. But life does go on. It takes a long time to heal, and you never forget, but it goes on. 36 years later and my mother hasn't forgotten the child she lost when he was a baby.

But as a member of a family who has been mourning a person who is still alive for the past 6 months, I can tell anyone it is no way to live. Mom is holding on to someone who will never come home and who will never be who he once was. They are married for 49 years and she is faced with a life alone. Even with Dad alive in the hospital, it gives her purpose to be able to visit him every day.

He already has experienced cardiac arrest and was resuscitated. Had a DNR been signed, he would be gone and at peace. Trust me, he isn't in peace now. He suffers every day. Us kids try to help mom to make a good choice. Even though my sister is Dad's health care proxy (because mom had been in surgery during part of Dad's hospital stay), she will not put pen to paper on a DNR until mom gives the go ahead.

When a man and a woman become husband and wife, they entrust each other with the most serious of plans. Family, home, finance and especially health. Parents will eternally care for their children as they should, but they relinquish their rights when the child says 'I DO'. JMO

I think that's the part he's trying to expedite. Too bad the dumb beyotch he's with doesn't realize what a loser he is. I'd be afraid to hang around someone like him, you know, just in case I had some random stroke or something

I agree. And, here's an interesting tidbit: in 1991, he started DATING one of Terri's NURSES.

What would have happened if she did make a recovery at that point? Surely within the 1st year of her injury, there was hope for recovery.

how would any of us feel if we woke up 1 year later to find out that our husband did our NURSE?
