That's why things need to be in writing, and who knows if there was something in writing in Terri's case. For all we know there could have been something saying she would still want to stay alive and he probably destroyed it.
..
He didn't destroy anything and for people to assume that is silly. Just out of curiousity..DO YOU have a health care proxy or a DNR? I bet NOT. Why would you think this woman had one....I am 31 and i don't have one. (at least not yet). This case is an eye opening experience. I bet even if she would have had one it...she would have left it as the husbands decision. But that is just a guess. And the money going to 'just your kids' well the money would be used FOR THE KIDS...to help raise them. And to say that he should be by her side not going on with his life, is silly too. He did stand by her for years, moved in with her parents to take care of her. But once he was told there is no hope. He felt having her live this way, without any possibility of getting better, was wrong and would be something she wouldn't want....
And i am sorry but 'handing' her over to the parents to take care of her....SHE ISN'T A PET. I know they love her and want to think that she will get better. But she won't. She will never live a life worth living. THey are keeping her here because they are desperate and they are listening to DOCTORS WHO WANT MONEY. Putting her through all this experimental BS...So they can get money and fame To me THAT is SICK part. These doctors playing on the parents desperation....SICK AND WRONG!
First of all before you jump down my throat I didn't say he definitely destroy anything. Second of all we all entitled to our opinions. It was very noble of him to take care of her all those years and then the minute he found out there would be no hope he moves on with his life. Whether in a coma or not Terri is still a human being and still technically alive and for him getting on with his life said that Terri was already dead to him. This is how I feel. I have no sympathy for that man.
I do think that terri should go in peace, she is suffering. But at as a parent is still hard to see a child die.

Hospitals provide better care then nursing homes IMO...and although there are, i am sure, great nursing homes out there...I FEEL the majority are NOT a place i would put a pet let alone my family member
You are correct in your statement. Many are not up to par. In the hospital units (ICU and RCU) my father is entitled to private duty nursing 80% of which is covered by his AARP insurance. Once it is deemed necessary for him to move to nursing care, the insurance will not cover the cost of private duty in the nursing home. Home hospice is not an option as my mother is not physically able to care for his serious medical needs alone even with an RN. We simply cannot afford private duty at home. It is a dilemma many familes face. We are doing our best. thank G-d we have the insurance that we do.

My sister is a writer for a political forum and she filled me in on a lot of details that I didn't know. It sort of altered how I view the case...although I was always on the fence with the whole thing, she made me think twice. Alot of it doesn't make sense and I think they really need to stop playing media games and bring the real truth to light (like the comments about her being 'at peace' from the Schiavo family...yeah because they have her doped up on morphine. They say she's not showing any signs of suffering...that's untrue too. Think about how incredibly dehydrated you feel after not drinking enough in a few days. They're saying she's not suffering from cracked lips, etc. B.S. It doesn't take a medical professional to know that's crap.

right..i see what you are saying..but still, i'm thinking it's just a pre-caution...really...can anyone be 100% sure of anything?? (especially doctors)
the whole thing really is just too sad.

Terri's husband got his wishes..now I think funeral plans should be up to her family.
It should be up to all of them..if they agree!
it was in the paper today..they don't agree..he wants her cremated and ashes to be buried in Penn with his family...her catholic family wants her to have a mass and be buried in florida
He is such a dirt bag.

Okay but if they are not sure then why are they killing this woman? Either they know she's gone-gone or they don't?

They're saying she's not suffering from cracked lips,
Then you have the other side saying she's not suffering at all...Maybe her body is suffering, but she (her spirit??) is not...??? I don't get it...

Re: Terry Schiavo's parents
I believe the morphine actually speeds up the dying process. They gave it to my aunt when she was dying of lung cancer. Her body actually started shutting down on it's own, and she didn't eat or drink for two weeks before the end. She became more and more weak, but was not in pain. The last day she was alive she was comatose, not at all coherent, but other than that she was in and out of sleep, but not in extreme pain. It's not like you or I depriving ourselves of food to diet and feeling pangs of hunger.

I'm not sure that's exactly true.

I'm not sure that's exactly true.
To be specific, she received a morphine and potassium chloride mixture administered from hospice, which definitely speeds the dying process.
ETA: I did find online that the morphine drip, when administered continuously, is a form of slow euthanasia.
