I was on it years ago- not to gross you out but it made my cocky very bloody, and I had to go for a colonoscopy at the age of 19. It's known to cause colitis.

I advise staying away from Accutane. Anything that could potential deform a baby while you're pregnant can't be good for you.
I've had cystic acne for 10 years and finally have a program that works! My dermatologist perscribed Spinoactoline 25mg 2x a day. Spinoactoline works by binding to testosterone and therefore reducing the amount that is turned into the active form which causes excess sebum output and acne. Its really used to control blood pressure but its been found to help with acne.
I'm also using Differin in the morning and Duac at night. And I'm on birth control too. The birth control is recommended with the Aldactone because of break thru bleeding.

Re: Skin problems -acne- I am sad.
I have been struggling with the same problem for years, I have tried everything under the sun and was so depressed going out in public. I got the injections too which didn't seem to work. Now I use Retin-A and Finacea Gel 15% and Triaz facewash everyday...plus I take an oral antibiotic Doryx100mg 2x a day. I also go for demabrasion every 3 m onths because it is a little pricey. I know if sound like a lot but it really is just a regular routine now. The Oral antibiotic is the one that made such a difference because it works within my body and the icky stuff that causes the acne. mention it to your dermatologist.....maybe you can try it but I have had problems for over 10 years year with really bad cysts all over my face and neck and I'm now acne free! Good Luck hang in there you will find something. If you have any question FM me.

I have been under a lot of stress with work and planning this wedding in 8 months by myself. My skin in the last month has been acting up. I have been getting cysts which the derm. sugested I get injected and go on antibiotic. I went back today and he said that the antibiotic is not working and he suggested Acutane. I heard bad things about this. I am afraid to go on this b/c I plan to try to get pregnant on my honeymoon. Do you know anyone who has been on this medication and what the side effects are?
Thanks so much,
if you plan to get pregnant then STAY AWAY from accutane seriously, it is said the baby WILL have birth defects.
I have been having ALOT of problems with my skin too, been going to a dermatologists and the creams are ok...but yesterday i decided to go this lady who does facials and is real good at helping people with problematic skin, im gonna go to her every month until the wedding. She really knows her stuff and ALOT of her clients are those who had acne and went to dermatologists for years but never really worked and she was able to help them. If you want info FM me

I took accutane. To be on it, you have to take a blood pregnancy test every month, use two forms of birth control and swear that you will not get pregnant for 4 months after you stop taking it.
It cleared up my skin, but wore off. Birth control is now the best thing that has ever cleared my skin. I know you want to get pregnant, but maybe taking BC until the month before your wedding would help.

I also have really bad acne. You should do a peel or have a facial of some sort. I use Listerine at night when I go to sleep and that helped me very much. I havent been using that bec I m lazy and/or I forget to do it. I also take Minoclclin pills and use Duac sometimes

Re: Skin problems -acne- I am sad.
my derm had put me on Minocycline and it cleared my skin in 3 months. ask about that.
plus i can not say enough about the face wash Cetaphyil (sp?) I had bad breakouts and this face wash is strong yet gentle!!!
Its about $12 a bottle at wal-mart. Try it out and ask your dr about Minocycline.

Has anyone tried the Murad system they advertise in informercials early in the morning on weekends? (Am I the only one that's awake at 8am on a Sunday???) It looks good, and I just wanted to mention it for those of you having problems.

I too would advise AGAINST that medication....ask your derm for a cleanser called 'triaz' its a peroxide cleanser and it really helps. I have the same EXACT problem (stress, work & pimples, which I NEVER got in my life). I use Triaz as a wash and then this cream called duac..... GOOD LUCK!

I had the same problem for a few years. I was on minocyclen for 2 months and now I use Duac at night. I'm also on BC pills. My skin is perfect now and I very rarely get breakouts and when I do it's a little thing. No more cysts.
The biggest thing is reducing stress. It helps a lot. Also try cutting out as much processed food as possible.. Lots of leafy greens , fruit and veggies.

***You ABSOLUTELY CANNOT get pregnant on Accutane***
I cannot emphasize this enough. It causes horrible birth defects.
I took accutane in HS and am part of an ongoing study on the long-term ramifications of taking the drug. It is linked with depression and other mood disorders as well. It seriously raises your cholesterol as well -- you have to take blood tests at least every other week to check your cholesterol and you need to watch your diet very carefully while on the drug.
My brother also took it. Neither of us would ever recommend taking it to anyone. We think the long-term effects aren't well enough known, and I'd be happy to discuss some things more personally via FM.

Re: Skin problems -acne- I am sad.
I did take Accutane a couple of years ago because I had bad acne on my back (bacne, gross!). It is true that you have to be on 2 forms of birth control, take a pregnancy test every time you go in, and do lots of other things to make sure you do not get pregnant. If you are planning on getting pregnant on your honeymoon, it's probably not a good idea.
However, it worked AMAZINGLY for me, and the only side-effect I experienced was being really nervous because I had heard bad things. I finished my cycle of taking it in Fall 2005, and I have had perfectly clear skin ever since. I was told that it might come back, but it certainly hasn't. Since I knew I wasn't planning to get pregnant any time soon, I wasn't too concerned by it, but in your case, might not be the best plan!

Re: Skin problems -acne- I am sad.
In order for you to be on Accutane, you have to be on two forms of birth control. It is proven to cause serious birth defects. In addition, you have to go for blood tests every month.
You should speak to your dermatologist about other alternatives if you don't want to do Accutane. You can always take a minocycline drug combined with creams (Duac, Differen, Retin-A, Nicomyde, etc...). Also ask about Triaz facial wash, which is a benzoyl peroxide wash that they prescribe.
Also ask about BC pills--many of them are great at helping to clear up your skin. I had really bad skin and went on BC and it cleared up.

Dont take Accutane, my brother took it for w hile and it meade him screwy. Honestly I've had acne problems for years and the only thing that worked is ProActive. I've spent thousands on dermatologists and they were too harsh. Not too sound like an infomercial but try it before you try Accutane.

Re: Skin problems -acne- I am sad.
I was on Accutane years ago. I had a very good experience with it.
You can't get pregnant on it though. But I've never heard of anyone being on it for 8 months, so I'm sure you'll be done taking the pills within 5 months. You take monthly blood tests and you must show proof that you are using birth control pills.
With any drug you really can only listen to your doctor and see what he thinks. I know everyone has strong opinions about this, but it's really up to the 2 of you to decide what's best for you.
FM me if you want any details about my experience.
