THE MOTIVATION & GOALS THREAD

Original post by shamma

What do you do to keep yourseld motivated and to stay on track, to keep losing weight, eating right and exercising??

I always try to picture myself where I want to be and what I will be wearing when I get there.

Another thing that I do is I will buy an anticipation outfit and make it be my motivation

I reward myself with nice w/o outfits whenever I reach a goal.

As they say, nothing taste as good as thin feels, my gf told me this is from her WW meeting. I like that a lot

I love to exercise, so there I do not need too much motivation, when I feel like my workouts are getting redundant and not challenging me anymore, I try different classes, african dance, aqua aerobics, boxing etc.

Re: THE MOTIVATION & GOALS THREAD

Thanks shamma - I already bought good snacks for me to bring to work - all I really need is something to munch on I think - so I got baby carrots that are already prepared so you dont have to cut up or anything. I'll have to keep some at my desk at all times.

And I'm going to find a pic today and hang it up on my desk. Now that weather is cooler I'll try to walk during lunch too. Some people from my job walk to Central Park - I can't imagine being able to walk there and do a bit of the park and back w/in an hour so that's my goal - to see if I can too.

Oh and I did work out yesterday
But ate alot of crap junk food too

Maybe I'll just wire my jaw shut for the next 6 mos! LOL

Good luck ladies!

Re: THE MOTIVATION & GOALS THREAD

Today I did the 5 mile diabetes walk.

I was joking with my parents as we walked that it was cold, it was raining, it was too early in the morning, etc...

Then I look around and I saw a few senior citizens, another woman with a knee brace, a woman with a neck brace, a woman limping and I did not hear one complaint from them.

They were walking, smiling and having a great time.

That really motivated me to get my act together, walk and stop complaining.

I did 5 miles in about 1 hour.

Mel, that is awesome, it is always easy to find an excuse to not eat right and to not exercise, how come we do not make those same excuses when we are about to not eat well or make bad food choices

Good Morning everyone, here are some quotes to keep you motivated.

This quote goes out to those who are wondering when they should start to exercise or to eat right, there is no time like the present and if you do not start now, when will you??

Great quotes, Shamma! Thanks

Went to Bally's today. Could only manage 20 mins on bicycle. Yikes!

Going again tomorrow. I need to get 'into the groove'!!

Re: THE MOTIVATION & GOALS THREAD

Maribelle, I am proud of you, you could have easily stayed at home and done nothing. 20 mins is better than nothing at all. You go girl, keep it up, start small and you will be able to last. Hard and fast never works.

Re: THE MOTIVATION & GOALS THREAD

Morning one and all, I have made a pledge to myself to eat better and watch my portion size. I am proud to announce today that since last Tuesday, I am down 4 lbs.

I have gotten my environment in order. We went shopping and I was reading labels like it was going out of style. LOL It probably took longer shopping than it normally did, but I feel it was worth it. Reading labels really opened my eyes, when I compared regular to the lower in fat version of the item. I saw how easily choosing the lesser could make my weight loss goal become a reality that much more quickly and not only that, but just being healthier overall.

My husband is very supportive and he is willing to try the things that I pick up. Little by little I will try to phase out of our cupboard the high claorie/high fat items. In the supermarket I was picking up 2 of everything, 2 cheese, one regular 1 fat free, same with butter, this could get costly, so since I am in charge of groceries we will be a fat free family soon.

I have even switched from the love of my life regular hot chocolate to sugar free hot chocolate, and I started using Equal instead of regular sugar.

If any of you ladies have items that you have tried and liked and you think I should try it as well, please feel free to share. I am ready willing and able.

Here is your quote for today

Re: THE MOTIVATION & GOALS THREAD

Congrats Shamma
I weighed in at WW today and I am down .8 of a pound. Yay!

Very good to look at nutrtional labels. Always notice what the serving size is. I am always surprised that something that I thought was 'ok' in terms of calories/fat/fiber - I might not be eating the right 'portion' or 'serving' and not even realize it until I see that 1 service is 8 oz or something.

Something for the 'waist watchers' ( ):

Also keep in mind the hidden sugars.

-vanilla extract (Badia brand - last time I checked made extract with just vanilla and alcohol)

-bacon - Gwaltney brand makes bacon NOT cured with sugar. The only places I know that sells the brand are C-Town and Western Beef. I've had it - tastes just as good as any other bacon. I think Canadian bacon is not cured w/ sugar either but I am not sure.

When things say 'fat free' - the manufacturers put in extra sugar to make up for the flavor that fat would have added. IMO sugars (refined sugars) are worse than fat itself because the sugars also get converted into fat if you don't burn it off quick enough. I think that is why Atkins tends to work more than a high-carb diet.

However any kind of portion control is going to help people lose weight. Establish with your doctor or nutritionalist how many calories you should be consuming and then where you should be spending those calories (ie: 30% on fiber/breads, etc) and exercise 30 mins a day at least and weight should come off no matter what.

Mary, look at you go, laying down the law and what not, sounding all professional, I like that Thanks for the tip. I agree about the sugar. And Low fat or fat free does not mean you can eat the whole thing

Re: THE MOTIVATION & GOALS THREAD

I actually like Splenda better than equal.

I eat veggies instead of pasta (steamed green beans have a similar consistency and have 10% of the calories). BIG difference

Be careful of the fat free living thing - watch calories too! Fat (good fat) reduces hunger. If you don't have any fat, you might be more hungry even if you consume the same # of calories with some fat.

Update - I am now 2 lbs from my goal!

Iris

PS - www.fitday.com is a great way to track calories consumed vs burned

Go Shamma!

That is a big thing with WW, portion control and that makes a huge difference in so many things. You can have what you want but not 4 servings of it.

I like Splenda better too and it isn't artificial.

Down 24 lbs since April!!

Congrats Shamma!

I unfortunately am not feeling well (for the past 4 days) so I STILL have not gone back to the gym. The only good thing is that I have no appetite so I haven't been eating like a pig.

Keep up the great work girls

Re: THE MOTIVATION & GOALS THREAD

WOW you women are really inspiring. I am a guy though. I started weight watchers 6 weeks ago at 175.6 pounds. I am 5'8. I didnt look over weight, but I felt like I was. So I started by writing down everything I ate in a day, before I started WW. I couldnt believe what I ate in one day.

In 6 weeks I have managed to cut down what I eat during the day, and I also do not feel as hungry as I used to. I feel more energized now and not as tired as I used to.

I cut Caffiene, and Sugar out of my diet. I also stopped drinking coffee.

Since I did this, I have lost 11.6 pounds, and I feel great. My goal is too lose over 17pounds. I am almost there. I plan on continuing after that though.

My motivation comes from knowing how good I look now. I love when people come up to me and say wow you look great, or did you lose weight? I love the fact that I can now wear a shirt and tuck it in and not be afraid that my stomach is hanging out. I used to wear all my shirts out, but not anymore.

Danielle went out and bought all new clothes for me for work, and I found that I can fit into things that I couldnt fit into before. My pant size went from a 33 to a 32. I am so happy.

The one thing I have not done is Excersize though. I have a treadmill and a bike in my house and I have not taken advantage of them. I just find it so boring to walk on the treadmill or ride the bike. I used to belong to a gym but I havent been back since July 4th. I just lose interest fast.

I wish I could start excersizing and enjoy it, and stick with it....I really need to do something about that.
