Re: The Official 2007 French Polynesia Thread

we are going to book when we get there. I heard you don't need to book in advance.
The only thing we might book in advance is dinner reservations

Hi Girls

Defineatly check with your TA's about the flights. Thats what happened to us, we were going direct and then it switched to a stop in LA. Check the check out time in your hotels for the day you come home, you might want to get a 'day room'.

Re: The Official 2007 French Polynesia Thread

I'm back girls...will work on my review with pics ASAP! Had an amazing time in PARADISE!!!

So sad to be home....

Bora Bora was our favorite island! If you are going to the Thalasso you are in for a real treat...it is amazing. We have not stopped talking about it!

If you're staying at Moorea Pearl in a garden pool bungalow...email the resort now and request room #228 or 229 as these 2 rooms have the biggest pools....we were in one and peaked to see the others and indeed our pool was double the size of the other rooms. We LOVED this room. Absolutely no need to spend the extra $ on an OWB there as the water is not even that blue and the OWB's are not at all far out...they are so close to the shore/resort. Save your money and do OWB's in Bora Bora!

We ate out at a lot of great restaurants.....
Loved them all...
Moorea:
Alfredo's, Le Mahogany and Te Hono Iti with Le Mahogany being our favorite!
Bora Bora:
Hotel Bora Bora Beach BBQ with dance/fire show...an absolute MUST if you are in Bora Bora on a Wed night!
Bloody Mary's (not sure why people say just to go to go but that food is bad...we had the most delish meal here)
Villa Mahana....email now for top table...an absolute MUST! Best meal of our entire trip! Still talking about the food and the ambiance! Amazing!

Le Taha'a was just ok - totally unimpressed after coming from the brand new Bora Bora Thalasso...nothing could compare! Wish we had done Le Taha'a after Moorea and then maybe we would have liked it a little more...we were just very let down. Food and service just ok and the prices were completely ridiculous....$17 for 3 scoops of ice cream at dessert is a crime! And you are totally trapped there - no where to go eat on the main island so you are stuck paying these ridiculous prices!
And pack your bug spray b/c there were more bugs than guests at Le Taha'a...even saw a lovely RAT, yes rat, run up the wall next to me at dinner. I had no idea paradise had RATS! I thought I left them behind in NYC!

Ask away if you have any questions...would be happy to answer them. Will try to get my very detailed review up as soon as I can!!!

Only dinner reservations we made in advance were the Hotel Bora Bora BBQ (this was about $85 per person for all the food you can eat and an amazing fire/dance polynesian show...from what I've read and heard from others it's the best show to see in FP) and Villa Mahana. If you're going during the high season though I'd make reservations in advance for Bloody Mary's. We spoke to the owner and he told us it is standing room only in there during high season and that you need reservations ahead of time.

I just asked DH what he thinks we spent while there....he said about $4k. We were there a full 2 weeks though so take that into account. When we arrived and saw how expensive everything is we did make a conservative effort to not go totally overboard on everything...like we probably would have like to do more spa treatments but didn't b/c of $. And we only did 2 excursions...1 on Moorea (4x4) and 1 on Bora Bora (shark, ray feeding). We also didn't even eat lunch every day - would fill up at breakfast and were fine until dinner. So that's what it was all spent on...meals, 2 excursions, drinks and just 1 spa treatment for me at Bora Bora Thalasso.

Hope that helps!

Hi....no the water in Le Taha'a was not nearly as gorgeous as the water in Bora Bora. We actually only swam in the pool at Le Taha'a - didn't even go in the lagoon there b/c it was pretty dirty. A lot of algae and stuff floating around. We also saw a manta ray swim by our OWB every day so we were freaked by that and that was part of the other reason we just never made it in the water there. Someone told me the water was dirty b/c of rain though...we had rain every day there. Just in the morning or at night so didn't ruin our time there but they said the rain picks up stuff and makes the water dirty there when it rains.

We literally did nothing while there which was fine with us b/c we like to just relax and hang by the pool or on our deck. They had excursions you could do but we just didn't feel like it there...it was the last 4 days of our trip so we just wanted to relax and do nothing. Excursions there were expensive though.
Also are trapped as to where to eat there - there's nothing on the main island (except 1 place Ches Louise...but it's a woman who cooks for you at her house. You just eat whatever she happens to be making that day so we couldn't do that b/c my hubby is a picky eater). You are stuck eating at the restaurants at the hotel which are a complete and total rip off - very small & limited menu at dinner too.

Re: The Official 2007 French Polynesia Thread

I finally booked my honeymoon yesterday! I'm soOooOO excited! We will leave NYC on 07/10 and coming back on the 18th. (Lisa - can you change the date for me on the list? )
We will be staying at the Moorea Pearl Resort in a garden bungalow with private pool for 3 days and then at the Le Meridien Bora Bora in an Overwater Bungalow for 5 days. I can't wait~!

I have a couple questions:
1) Anyone stayed or staying at the Le Meridien in Bora Bora? i think the majority is staying at the Pearl. It was booked so we couldn't stay there. Feedbacks please!
2) How do we make reservations for the Dinner show at Hotel Bora Bora, Bloody Mary's and Villa Mahana? Do i need to call or can i do it via email?
Hayley - Did you just email Villa Mahana with the date?
3) KandE917 - I'm staying at the Moorea Pearl in a garden pool bungalow. Do i just email them or call them requesting rooms #228 or 229? (thanks for the tip! )
4) I want to get a tattoo while i'm there! Anyone else thinking of getting one? My FH gives me the dirtiest looks everytime i mention it! But i want one!!!

Thanks girls~! Although it was to go on this honeymoon i know it's going to be worth every penny! (too bad it's pennies that i don't have! )
