I finally saw the entire video. Frank and I disagree on this. (the guy died) He feels bad for the guy and thinks the cops were wrong.. I totally disagree, if you see the entire video you see this guy MAJORLY resisting arrest.. it took thre cops to get this guy on the ground and he would NOT put his hands behind his back.. the cops had to beat him with the night sticks.. I knew the guy was on drugs.
What should the cops have done, said 'oh ok you dont want to be arrested, well ok just waalk away'
If your going to commit a crime you have to pay, unfortunatly this guy was so stupid he paid with his life..

Re: The Video of the Cops and the Guy
My father is an alcoholic. I am not. I may be predisposed to alcoholism but that is not a guarantee. I make the choice not to be. I control my life.
The problem with our society is that we label drug addicts as 'victims'. Pick yourself up dust yourself off and fix your life. Stop blaming others. Drug addicts want to use or they would stop. Withdrawal might suck but eventually you get your life back and hopefully you learn something.

Re: The Video of the Cops and the Guy
My brother is a former drug addict, and he did some terrible things in his past....but he realized he had a problem and he got help.....and then he served the last 9 months in Iraq protecting our freedom.
My uncle is a former alcoholic...he drank himself to death and stole money from his two sons.
Different people react to life differently, but there is no excuse for breaking the law, there is no excuse for resisting arrest, and the police department can and SHOULD do anything and everything they can to protect us. If someone is resisting, they need to do what they can to subdue that person. And that man was continually resisting arrest, the were doing what they had to to subdue him. They are not responsible for his death...he is responsible for his death! Personally, I am grateful to those police officers for doing all that they could to protect the other citizens of that community. I applaud their actions.
Just my opinions......

Victims??? That is very funny you think they addicts like to live that way ???? if you are not an addict then you can not say Dust your self off if it was that easy there would be mpre sober people.... I am happy with the PD MU WHOLE FAMILy are cops I am saying though the guy was ill drug addiction is a mental illness no on like to torture themselves that bad and what is realyy sad is that people dont understand it .....Some get better and some dont it is unfortunate but not a choice !!!! I have a sister that is very ill she has beem through numerous treatments and has been diagnosed a chronic alcoholic SHE DOES Not chose this lifestly she is mentally sick she doesnt even know... if I were perfect yes I would say I never broke the law how many times have you been stopped (traffic, as a kid ) for doing something and been mad ..... I cant say I never was and my family are cops it is a normal reaction ... Why was he stopped in the first place ( guy in video?) I am sure he didnt just come out swinging.

Some concerned employees at the White Castle called it in. They felt he was behaving strangely. The cops arrived at the White Castle parking lot.

I didnt say you were rude or condecending I meant if your dad suffered from this disease he can tell you it is also mental not just physical. and I hate the fact they you are telling me I have issues I am stating my opinion as well as you are yours i would never say you had issues because you disagree with me and if it my sister you are referring to as my 'issues' then I am saddened that you think that is MY ISSUE, i just felt sad for this whole situation nothing wrong with that.

Re: The Video of the Cops and the Guy
People who have parents who are drug addicts and so on can either choose to live their lives like a loser drug addict or be something in their life. My best friends father was a drug addict so was she her 3 little sisters all through high school and still to this day walk around with pins on that say Drugs arent cool. They saw what the drugs did to people that they loved (father and Sister) and decided they didnt want to ruin their lives like that. If u want to be a drug addict you will be if you dont then u wont start! I never even smoked pot in my life. don't smoke Ciggarettes either. I do have my occasional drink but I know when to stop and this is also LEGAL!!
This is not the issue. The issue is that he lunged at cops and was told over and over again to put his hands behind his back and he didnt! Cops had to try and get him down and couldnt. They didnt shoot him cause that would be wrong. I mean what is the point of them having nightsticks then?
Moral of the story don't do things to get arrested. Don't do drugs. If a cop tells you to stop and put your hands behind your back do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The Video of the Cops and the Guy
As the wife, daughter and sister of cops I just want to add, at the end of the day someone needs to come home, should it be the criminal, out breaking the law, or the cop, out doing his job to protect the citizens of that community?
MY VOTE - THE COP SHOULD BE THE ONE TO COME HOME!

and it's equally disheartening when people don't appreciate what they do everyday.... Not only do they risk their lives EVERYDAY for people they don't even know, and everytime they have to use force, they are brought up on charges themselves.
I personally get so upset everytime I see this on the news and worry that it will deter honorable men from wanting to pursue this career in the future.

That is the ideal situation and one that the cops would prefer as well. But when you have a drugged out, huge man lunging at you, I am sorry but the cops have the right to defend themselves.

Re: The Video of the Cops and the Guy
wow liz!! you must have ESP!! I was just going to quote her and ask what she meant by why cant it be both?????
and why she made this face
it cannot be both, b/c why would a criminal go home, they go home if they did nothing wrong but if they are stopped for something serious and then resist arrest and fight back, why let them go home?
