Thinking of switching to a night wedding....

Thinking of switching to a night wedding....

We are currently booked for a daytime wedding, which is what we originally wanted (cheaper, beautiful grounds at our RH, need less decoration, etc). Before I started the planning process, I didn't realize how early this would entail me waking up to get ready, finish pictures, etc. Now I kind of want to switch to nighttime because I want to enjoy the day, enjoy the getting ready process, not feel rushed....FH is intent on keeping it in the day. Is it worth the switch? It would be approximately $7,000 more to have it at night....

$7k is a LOT of money. If you have the extra money, I think it would be better spent on upgrading the HM.

Yea that is a lot of money spent....We had a day wedding due to budget and I had some reservations about it...but it was PERFECT! I would not have spent $7K to make it an evening wedding. Our ceremony was at 1pm...so we started getting ready at 7 and had enough time. We did not see each other beforehand...and got married at our RH so that made things easier as well.

We originally were booked for a day wedding and about 2-3 months into it we switched it to a night wedding instead. I think it all really comes down to your preference on it. We switched because we both kept questioning our decision at various times. Every vendor we called to tell that we switched said there is such a big difference and that we wouldn't regret it. The only one who wasn't happy was the RH because its harder to book a day wedding than a night wedding and they could have had a night wedding after ours.

If you're ok with it than I say stay with the day wedding but have a serious talk with your FH about it before you make a decision. $7k is a big difference in price, had ours been that much of a price difference we'd still be having a day wedding!

NOT worth it in my opinion. I am having a similar issue with timing in the AM. I'm going to have to hire 3 or 4 hair girls so everyone in the bridal party can wake up at a reasonable hour. It would cost the same anyway.

We are probably going to stay at Oheka Castle the night of our wedding and so, for us, it makes sense to arrive there early to enjoy the place (I've never seen it in person) rather than showing up at midnight and then waking up early the next day to go to the airport.

Where is your venue?

Negotiate with your RH! I'm sure they will work with you. I say DEF do the night wedding...it sets the whole atmosphere and I think it will be worth it.

I had a day wedding - and regardless of waking up early - it was fabulous.

7k is ALOT of money. We are also having a day wedding. I have been to several day wedding and they are just as fun. Save your money & put it towards your honeymoon. Good luck with your decision.

I can understand wanting the night wedding. I myself am having an evening wedding and wouldnt want it any other way BUT to spend 7k just to move it a few hours isnt worth it IMO. 7k could be used for so many other things. Id actually use that $ and book a fab HM. If $$ isnt an issue for u then hey, go for it but like an above bride said try negotiating further with your RH. Maybe they can come down in price. Good luck.

what about having it on a friday night? That is what we are doing and it worked out nicely...it was definitely more than doing it during the day but not as expensive then a saturday night

What did the vendors say the difference was? I can think of the obvious, but I'm curious as to what they said.

Thank you for all of your advice, ladies!

I think vendors charge the same, like photographers and video, florists... because they can't really book another event anyway. (besides florist but their prices don't change with time of day anyway)

I don't think 7k is worth it. That is alot of money. I never saw myself getting married in the day, but I think it would be better for me because if I was waiting hours I would be freaking out. Besides i plan to hang out after my wedding.

wow 7G is a lot! Personally, I would use that extra $$ to upgrade the honeymoon. But if it is something that you really want and can afford it, go for it.

I had a night wedding and I wouldn't have changed it for the world. Never even thought about having a daytime wedding - just wanted something more formal.
However, it seems like you and your FH disagree onthe financial aspect of this - so you'll have to agree between yourselves before you go ahead an switch.
Good luck!

The thing is, my parents said they are willing to pay the difference. My parents would rather have a night wedding as well because they feel it would just, in general, be easier for everyone, schedule-wise. My mom is even willing to go with me to our hall to try to negotiate with them more.

FH knows that they are willing to pay for it, but he feels really uncomfortable with accepting that. He has such a good heart.

That's different, if they are willing to pay for it- then it is important to them. In that case, switch to night time. I was thinking you were paying for it yourselves.

ITA, I am having a night wedding (ceremony at 7:45pm) but we are seeing each other prior to take pics. I personally did not do a day wedding due to timeing (black folks do CP time...not to mention my family is Jamaican, they are own a relax slow a$$ time ). It is a lot of money so think it through. HTH and good luck!

I think I would feel the same way as your FH. Save your 7k and put it towards a downpayment for your house/condo.
