So I am sure this topic has been discussed before, but I am completely shocked and honestly a little disgusted (but that comes more from the girl than the situation at hand).
I got a wedding invitation from a girl who I used to be really good friends with but have drifted apart in our friendship over the past couple years surrounding events that have occurred between us that could honestly make me care less at this point. That doesnt really have any bearing on the situation, but just based on our particular friendship and the kind of person she is, this irks me. She had the b@lls to put on her wedding invitation 'no boxed gifts'. i mean, REALLY??? I think thats quite possibly the rudest most presumptuous thing I have ever heard in my life. who the he!! are you to tell me what i give you as a GIFT. Its a gift, you take what ppl give you and thank them graciously whether you like it, need it, want it or not. I honestly cannot believe she had the nerve.
FH hates her, like to the point where he doesnt want to go to the wedding (or her 3 1/2 HOUR ceremony - but thats another topic) and he wants to get her something and put it in a TV box, and i cant say I disagree one bit. Makes me want to get her something boxed - and not something from her registry.
sorry so harsh, but this chick needs a reality check in all aspects of life and thats probably where the abrasiveness is coming from, but aside from that i just think its rude to put 'no boxed gifts' on your wedding invitation - am I alone???

you're right! You can't dictate what someone chooses to give you as a gift!

Re: Unreal
Soooo rude!!! I would show up there with a big boxed present... Matter of fact, knowing my FH he would wrap a box inside a box inside a box and then have a small present in there for her... LOL!

Re: Unreal
I got an invite about 2 years ago for a distant cousin and it said 'Cash Gifts Only'
I was horrified, and I thought the wording was even tackier.
What's wrong with people?

I have seen that on several wedding invitations and I HATE it. I find it tacky.

Re: Unreal
honestly---i wouldn't get upset over it or anything. she's obviously rude and classless and not worth it
RSVP 'No' and just don't go. why would you even BOTHER attending a wedding of someone you don't like and your FH can't stand? just move on

Re: Unreal
I didnt even know that people even gave boxed gifts anymore! Its almost always money (at least in NY) so I would think that wrtiting that is unnecessary. I would give her a boxed gift - like a vase!! lol

haha my fh would do that too!
it's so rude! i mean it just shows what kind of person she is. i am thankful for anything i receive. whether it be plates, or money, or even if it is just a card. It meant they took the time to think about me and fh.

Re: Unreal
HOW RUDE!!! I would bring a gift, such as the vase or a frame and just wrap it in wrapping paper or put it in a gift bag! Hey, she said no 'BOXED' gifts!

i feel like i have to go. i dont want to and i totally agree with everything you said, but i still feel like i have to. I mean, we were still close enough that when she got engaged i really thought I was going to be in her bridal party (she was in mine when i was engaged a few years ago, so aside from us having drifted i thought she would ask me because of that alone, but she didnt. which i am so totally ok with).
Only question at this point is if I am going to get her something off her registry as a gift or give her a check and put it in a fairly large box. Either way, she's getting a box - thats for SURE.

Re: Unreal
that is bazarro I honestly never got an invite that said that. The only thing I am thinking is they don't want to have boxes at the wedding b/c it is too much to deal with ... I guess I am stretching it a bit
I would not go and than send a 'boxed' gift

I thought that too - but i texted her and asked her whats the no boxed gifts about? is that your way of asking ppl for cash? i threw an 'lol' in there to make it sound less harsh and she wrote 'yeah, i dont need ppl giving me cheap regifted picture frames for my wedding'
That is soooo tacky!!! Although, this is JMO, but so are boxed gifts for a wedding! Just to spite her, I'd probably go and bring a gift in a bag like the other girls said.

I wouldnt go...but that is just me-regardless of the situation BUT>>>>>>I would get her something off her registry and have it sent to her house then for the wedding give her a card and write on the inside I hope you enjoy your 'insert whatever you bought'
