Vacations

I just got off the phone with one of my good friends who told me she is going to Oregon for a vacation...
I was like WHY?

SHe is all into the US vacations (meaning going to places like utah or oregon)....And i am soo not. And neither of us can understand the other.

I don't like going hiking, wouldn't and have no desire to see a national park...she loves it.

We just cannot relate what-so ever..

so i am curious...what kind of vacations do LIW 'er like to go on?

Re: Vacations

My honeymoon was my first resort vacation, and I can see myself wanting to do more trips like that. It was so relaxing to lay next to a pool or on a beach with a book and a pina colada. (I wanted to snorkel, but DH didn't, saying, 'I don't want to have to LEARN anything on this trip.' I decided he was right).

I went to Europe twice when I was single and while those were amazing trips, they were exhausting as far as vacations go. When you shell out lots of money (even doing it on a tight budget as I did both times) and fly such a far distance, you almost feel guilty for not cramming in as much as possible. We were constantly on the go because how can you come home and say you didn't see xxxx?

I do hope to go to Europe again some day since DH has never been and there are still new places I want to see. But at the moment if I had to chose I think I would prefer a resort.

Re: Vacations

I've been been bugging my DH to take a trip to Montana (they have some great vacation ranches out there.) And he loves Bangor, Maine (fly fishing).

My DH and I will most not likely never ever do a cruise, especially to the caribbean. Just not our style for many reasons.

We both enjoy being active, whether it's deep sea fishing, horseback riding, hiking, etc.. We're just not 'sit by the pool/beach' type of people. (If we're at a beach resort, we'll usually pick one day where we just chill by the beach/pool.) We want to see what the country/state is about and has to offer.

See i guess i horseback ride so going to another state to do that is silly to me..
I grew up going to FLoirda all the time..Did the deep sea fishing thing (and other than florida most people go out of the US to do it seriously), did the hiking thing...IMO it just gets old...US gets sooo OLD and BORING to me

I love exciting, activities...but i guess i'd rather go to Australia or South Africa to do it...

And i agree going abroad is time consuming...which is why i would STILL rather got to the islands a cruise to relax...Montana..bleh

Re: Vacations

our HM was a first for both of us out of the country and we loved it and would do it again a million times over! But...DH is a history buff and I enjoy seeing things I've never seen before....

I guess we could go for either type of trip, but I'd prefer ones where I can relax, there is no work involved or learning!

Well, we did the deep sea fishing off the coast of Hawaii...it's obviously not going to be done in Montana. (I was just stating what we like to do when we travel in general, not just in the states.) My DH likes to hunt & fish, so fishing off the coast of Martha's Vineyard and Block Island is fun for him. He loves the Adirondacks (he has a camp up there.)

Australia is a great trip, but you need to be able to take vacation time for at least 2 weeks since you lose so much time traveling to the destination itself.

Since you're a rider, I'm surprised that you wouldn't enjoy horseback riding in other states. It's one hell of a way to take in the view. We were able to do it along the coast of Hawaii and the cliffs on Block Island. It's a much different view than riding here on Long Island.

Sure we plan to continue traveling abroad, but there's no way in hell I would consider the States boring and cross them off my list.

Re: Vacations

Well i am not really counting Hawaii...Yes it is a state but that wasn't really what i meant...I meant vacations in the odder states like i mentioned in my original post.

And nah...i am not a nature horseback rider. I ride in rings mostly. Yes it is nice to do nature rides but not my thing really

Re: Vacations

Ive been to Florida (this trip coming up will be my 4th trip).
Weve also been to Boston, (LOVE this state), Lake George (Which is NY and so much fun),
Lake Placid, Canada, PA, Washington DC (DH hasnever been, we will get there one day).
Our future plans are Las Vegas, CA, and hopefully one day Hawaii.
I would love to go to London as well. This summer we are planning on Lake George again. We are also hitting AC in May for my bday.
With getting a house it gets a bit pricey to go far so we love to make long weekends and just go. My parents have a house in FL so we are just paying the airfare and car rental.

I've always had vacations in the caribbean Vegas, Florida, so when my Minnesota Viking loving husband asked me to come with him to Minnesota for a Vikings game I was shall we say less than enthused. Let me tell you it was one of the best trips I ever went on! We've gone back a few times since that trip and I've always had fun. Would I give up my beaches and cruises for it, no never in a million years, but I'm glad that I was open for a change of scenery

BTW everything in Minnesota closes at like 1am

No, I never asked you about Hawaii. In fact, I never asked you anything. I only stated that I was suprised that you didn't enjoy riding in other states to take in the view from a different perspective.

This imo is asking me about Hawaii...and horseback riding there

I also stated in the same sentence that we went riding while on Block Island, RI. Then how come you think my statement was only asking you about Hawaii?
