Do you guys have them? Are they better then the other. We are in the process of obtaining a phone line for our new home. Tried visiting their site and its completeley down. Just would like some feedback from their customers. Thanks!

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
Don't ask me because I am completely annoyed at them right now. I established new phone service with them in my home. The woman who signed me up for an account tried to give me their highest price plan. I finally settled on a lower price one (but it was like totally dragging it out of her to learn the plans available) and she doesn't mention all these other charges. I get my bill for $75 - meanwhile I probably made 3 calls the whole months (seriously!). In Queens, with Verizon I was only paying like $30 a month and very happy with them. I have to change my plan but half the time the verizon website isn't working correctly and I can't view the plans and if you call they just try to tell you that plan is no good for your needs.
Then, my phone went down out of no where and I call and they say the problem is internal and I can have someone come fix it for like a really crazy amount. So I had my dad come and check it out and he tells me the line was shorted and it is external. So then I have to wait another week to get someone to come fix it and it was there fault (at least that was free of charge!)
I also just got a cell phone and the service has cut in and out and dropped calls constantly - me and DH. Meanwhile I hear the Verizon is the best but most expensive.
All in all - so far so bad but I have used them in all my other apartments and never had a problem and was always happy!
And don't get me even started on CableVision - I miss my Time Warner Cable!!! I had so much more for less $$$.

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
I am a verizon user. LOVE them! But they are more expesive than other carriers. I am a total fan of paying for customer service though and they are more helpful than any other carrier I have used. I displise AT&T!

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
My phone bill last month was $60, and we only made $12 worth of actual phone calls. We only have call waiting (not even caller ID) so the rest of the charges were taxes, surcharges, surcharges on the taxes, and taxes on the surcharges. Verizon can bite me!!!

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
I just got rid of them because I got tired of their crappy charges when I hardly ever use the phone. I use RCN now and the deal is a much better one with all the same features. I pay about $100 a month for cable, phone service and cable modem internet. Can't beat that! I used to pay $60 a month just for Verizon!!

I don't have a phone at home because I wouldn't use it and my phone bill will always be $$$$$$. I think they are ridiculous.
Now I just use my cellphone.

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
We are just starting out. We are really not social butterflys either. We both have cell phones. We really want the low standard plan. I really don't know what to expect, I don't know whats cheap a month or really expensive. This is my project for the new home and I have no idea what to look for. I really to be honest don't even want a phone and also I was thinking about leaving the computer w/ internet access at my mom's house :0) - not really sure about that yet. Cablevision is also next have no idea what that's going to cost us. Interesting though I'm seeing alot of good and not so good responses What are the alternatives for people that can't afford this stuff???? I guess not having it at all!!

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
I have Verizon for home and cell. Plus my husband works for Verizon as a field tech. I have no problems with my cell service. We just have the basic service for the home line. We use our cell phones for long distance and inetrnational.
I guess I'm biased when I say I love VErizon (it pays the bills).

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
That's the plan charge - then mine had like a $10 dial tone/line charge and tons of taxes and surcharges. I think the plan I signed up for is about $45.99 - and the bill was almost $75.
Demetra- I gotta call RCN and check it out. Thanks fot the tip.

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
I just called RCN. They do not service Nassau and Suffolk yet. They hope it will be in the next 6 months. They only service Queens, NYC and upstate, the rep said.
Thanks for the info though demetra

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
Do you have a cellphone? Most cellphone plans now a day have free long distance within the US so you can probably use your cell.

Re: Verizon Telephone Company
You need to sign up with Verizon to get a quick phone line/service into the new house. After that you can switch. They own the lines and it will take a lot longer to go thru another company for the first service line.
I uses MCI but have had some customer service issues. We are waiting for the dreaded Cablevisions phone service in our area. We have heard great things about it, although I hate Cablevision.
