Re: We haven't had a controversial discussion in a while...
ehh...i am not 100% positive on my place in this situation. I would never want the wrong person to be killed because of capital punishment.
But when I think of it, if someone ever killed one of my family members that would be it...he better watch out because it wont be the justice system that gets them it will be ME!!!
But seriously- you hurt my family you deserve what you have coming. Plus when I read about so many cases in my psych courses it was soo disturbing 1/2 the cases I read about and yes I thought OMG these people deserve the death penalty for what they did.

i think its more of a punishment to be in solitary confinement or some crap like that and rot there for life - but who knows - maybe knowing your going to die f's you up really bad? i dont know....either way, its crazy, like the above poster said - what if its the wrong guy im sure that it happens....the system isnt perfect...

Against it. It isn't our responsibility or right to play God. And capital punishment is the worst form of 'an eye for an eye.'

I have had a family member murdered by a man who is sitting in jail for the next 65 years...
i rather he was dead, then tax dollars to keep him alive

Re: We haven't had a controversial discussion in a while...
im all for it as well, some people commit such horrible crimes , they don't deserve to live . Only for certain crimes like pre-meditated murder and child molesters

I used to be against it but my cousin's half-sister was brutally murdered during her shift in a supermarket. It was so vicious and heartbreaking and it turned out that this wasn't the first time the guy killed someone. It completely changed the way I think and that guy does NOT deserve to live while her husband and 2 kids' lives are destroyed.

Although I will fully admit that if someone in MY family were killed I'd probably want to kill the murderer with my own hands, I am against it. Never right to take a life.

I am sooo sorry!!!
But I do agree- why should our tax $ pay for him to sit there. And plus how many murderers are really sorry for what they did- they did it for a reason. Or when yuo got those murderers who apologize or find God when it is their time to die- who the f*ck cares what they feel now they weren't thinking about how the person they killed was feeling
so yeah i say eye-for-and eye. I don't care you deserve it and 10 x's worse then how you made that person suffer!!!!

For it.
I like reading up on the history of it - i have books on it - I just find it fascinating - where it came from - why peoples in various provinces did it. Why people abolished it. I would love to teach a history class on it one day.

i actually wrote a psych paper on capital punishment and used alot of henious cases where the person committed such horrible horibble crimes!!!!! and after doing that paper- it was very very interesting to read up on, I found why I would believe in capital punishment.
but that would be an awesome class!!!

Im all about eye for an eye ! You give what you get in this world , and if your going to murder others you don't deserve the right to live AND my tax dollars shouldn't be housing the lowest scum of the earth when we can take that money and house the homeless in this country .
BUT I do respect your opinion on it , and you do have a valid point with playing G-D . Its a tough call , but sometimes we have to look at the greater good of society as opposed to our own comfort zone. I would have no problems sleeping at night if we had the death penalty in this state .
I guess my years working with felons in criminal court have jaded my hope that all people can recover and not commit more heinous crimes . I have dealt with tons of sociopaths, really scary guys , and let me tell you, society wouldn't be missing much if they were to all be executed

So sorry about that
I agree...I believe in capital punishment...it is a waste of tax dollars to keep total waste-of-lives alive.

Re: We haven't had a controversial discussion in a while...
I've never lost a family member to crime, so I can't even begin to imagine how horrible that would feel, and I'm very, very sorry for anyone who has.
My stance simply comes from the fact that if murder is wrong, murder is wrong - and capital punishment is a culturally acceptable form of murder. I can empathize with how other people feel, but I just don't think we as human beings are supposed to take another human being's death into our own hands...regardless of the crime that was committed.
