Wedding money

Original post by ChristineAaron08

How much do you anticipate getting for your wedding gifts compared to what you are spending?

Obviously none of us are getting married JUST to get $ and not everyone wil make their $ back.

Just curious what you anticipate.

FH always wonders about this since we are spending so much $. (although not as much as most, still a lot for us)

Re: Wedding money

I knew from the beginning - we're not in it to make money. I'm having my wedding to celebrate us getting married. The money we're spending is for our celebration. Whatever we get from our family and friends will be used to help furnish our new house so we can have them over for more parties

I figure maybe we'll get back the price of the hall.

I do not think we will make back close to what we are paying. We have over 200 guests and I have gone overboard on everything.

The good thing is that we are paying cash for the entire wedding so whatever we make will be our down payment on our house

ditto. except we're having about 150 guests

exactly....and 150 for us too.

thats around what i figured too! but then again who knows..i dont see my family giving too much ..especially my great aunts and uncles (and there are a lot of them).. i just don't think they have the money to give. which is ok with me cause i just want them to be there! but i can see friends of the family and some of FHs family giving a nice amount.i guess we will see.

Re: Wedding money

i doubt it....our wedding cost is about 100g and when the average couple goes to a wedding they give around 250-350 per couple
i know we are paying 185pp and having 275pp at our wedding...

but what ever we get its a gift and we are getting married to start our life together =)

I second that! My FH thinks we are gonna make awesome $$$ but I don't think we'll make even half back. We'll see...I have over 400 people and it's costing us a pretty penny when all is said and done. Whatever we make is for our house!

Re: Wedding money

I'm not too worried about it but I think we will make out well. We are spending no more than $30,000...but hopefully closer to $25,000. we have not had an e-party but have recieved over $2,000 in cash and gifts so far. FH's mom offered to pay for upgrade to room, flowers and makeup so we are already saving a ton there. FH's family is the type to spoil each other especially FH's mom...she's the one that bought that LLadro statue I put up for shitz n giggles. his sister bought all 8 noritake place settings for e gift. my family is not as giving to say the least but I like to think most of them go by the pay for plate theory. Like I said...I'm really not too concerned with this as long as we really enjoy our day...but it would be nice to start off with nice quality items we may not be able to buy for ourselves.

Re: Wedding money

I dont think we'll get nearly as much as we spent on the entire wedding. If we get enough that paid for the RH, DJ and odds and ends I'll be happy since thats what me and FH are paying for. But even if we don't thats okay, i'm not anticipating enough to put a down payment on a home

Re: Wedding money

definetely wont cover the cost but maybe most....hopefully. we have 300 people....just as long every person/couple gives a decent amount, we should be fine.

Re: Wedding money

it won't cover the costs at all for sure, my family is just starting to get used to these big events and they really don't understand the costs, so i understand~fh's family is the exact same deal~but it's ok a few generations from now they'll get it just in time for our grandkids to do well or break even, LOL!

but hey ask my familia about a kick *** house party and they've got a trillion years of experience...

it's hard to say....but i don't think it matters. i am trying to look at it that FH and i are spending the rest of our lives together, and we are paying for our entire family to be there to celebrate, and giving them a party for being there for us and being in our lives.

a wedding shouldn't be a money maker. don't get me wrong, i am VERY excited about the gifts we'll get but i'm sure they are not going to cover the cost of the wedding and i'm just happy we're getting some of the money back at all.

that is very true. Many will give at least double what their plate costs

I am pretty sure every single girl getting married is doing so because of their LOVE, I don't think you are any different in that sense~this thread (I think) is looking at another prespective, since finances ultimately do have a lot to do with our day to day lives, especially kicking off right after a wedding, its where we'll all be & it's going to matter~
