wedding 'trend' you said NO to

Original post by libby2595

ladies, i was wondering what 'new and hip' wedding trend did you just NOT WANT?

i'll go first. the funny thing is that mine is mostly an 'old traditional' trend... no bouquet toss and no garter toss (not enough sinlges at the wedding to justify).

your turn

disclaimer: please remember, that this is a matter of likes/dislikes and personalities. just because you don't care for something, doesn't mean that there isn't a wonderful bride who just loves the idea. i know we are all grown, well-behaved women and we won't say anything offensive about what another bride did/will do.

Ah thats right....

No 'intelligent' light show, fog, photo montage, giveaways or any of that extra stuff from the DJ. As my MOH put it, I don't want my wedding to look like a Backstreet Boy video!

just a ? why does nobody want to do the bo-k garter toss...

just wondering.

I didn't want it because I know at weddings I always hated to go up to catch the thing. I would purposely go to the bathroom during that time. There is just something not right about a bunch of women fighting over a bouquet. But my MOH really wants it, so for her I'll do it. Just have to make sure I aim for her

I didn't do menus or programs. We did the anniversary dance instead of the boq/garter toss. Many more people got to be involved.

HA HA dont you remember my cousin's wedding? no one ever wants to go up there - you wouldnt go up either!!!!!! - only like 5 girls went up and they let the bo k drop and i just picked it up bc it was my fam and i didnt care. . .

plus i have seen people get raunchy with the garter thing and that is just not my style

JMO - if you know a lot of peple will go up -go for it!

i think sometimes it embarasses the single folks who have to get up and such. but all my single friends/family love it...so it's staying

we're gonna do the toss--but we won't be making the bo-k catcher have the garter put on her leg. to make it interesting--we'll be giving out $25 gift cheques to each person.

Wow..all these posts are making me think of more!

No WE DO letters, no MC or DJ who talks to much (I'd vomit on my dress too!), no video, no gynormus bridal party, no puffy cinderella dress that will eat my petite figure alive, no cheesy dance music (chicken, electric slide), and no guests that we 'had' to invite.

Cry packs...I'm sorry, and no offense to anyone, but that is so stupid...I've never been to a wedding where guests have been frantically seeking out a tissue due to the overflow of tears of joy. Maybe MOB or MOG but I definitely don't think anybody besides them will benefit from a kleenex in an envelope! LOL

hahahaha i'm not doing that either...or slipper baskets

Same here to both

No garter bo-k toss for us.. no programs (seriously, you are there for a wedding, what else do you want me to tell you??)
no petal cones (will probably take the petals out of a basket), no cry packs (just cheezy)

ETA:

No slipper baskets and probably no bathroom baskets (it's a public bathroom and I don't want to share with another party who may not have put in a basket themselves)

I didn't see anyone mention this yet...

I am not ordering the custom made postage stamps for the STD's or invites.

Here are a few more things we are NOT doing:

NO slipper basket
NO dollar dance
NO group dances (ie.. YMCA, electric slide...)
NO blow-up guitars or leis or straw hats from the DJ
NO bathroom baskets
NO 'We Do' Letters
NO guest book
We will be at our CH with our family & friends

Re: wedding 'trend' you said NO to

there are a lot of 'trends' that we did not have at our wedding

no cry packs
no ribbon wands
no rose petals - that was a church thing, not our choice
no slipper baskets

but we did have the bo-k toss and garter removal. it was fun, but if its not for you, its not for you.

Re: wedding 'trend' you said NO to

Oh, I just saw/thought of another thing I will NOT do. We won't do the anniversary dance and here's why. My cousin did it at her wedding. My poor grandfather had no one to dance with because my grandmother had passed away (and this was the first big event that he had to go it alone at, so we made a lot of mental note that day for my wedding). My sister ended up dancing with him in place of my grandmother. But it was just truly heartbreaking.

Another thing is that FH and I will dance to our first song and NOT invite our parents, bridal party, & guests to join us.

1. No BoK toss or garter

2. No cry packs

3. No strapless dress

4. No round boK -- I wanted cascade

5. No high CP

6. No dyeable shoes for the BM

7. No photo of the BM lifting up their dress and showing their leg......I can't stand that pose and it's way overdone IMO

8. We didn't skip the CH.....we enjoyed every minute of it -- also greeted all the guests during that time so we could enjoy the reception...

We have so much in common. All of those are true for me, too!
