I totally don't agree with him on a lot of issues and I think he spouted a lot of what in my eyes is BS, but I think he gave a really compelling speech and I think he won over a lot of swing voters. He seemed very decisive. When he said 'you know where I stand' that was such a powerful statement. It was the kind of speech I wish John Kerry would finally stand up and give. If he doens't, he's losing a lot of undecided voters to Bush.

Re: What did you think of Bush's speech?
His speech was OK... but it definitely wasn't one of his more 'powerful' speeches.
But then again I don't think thats what he wanted anyways. Bush wants people to vote for him because he is a 'likeable guy'. And I think he did pull a decent amount of swing voters by being very honest, up-front, and most importantly... humble.
I kind of liked when he said 'his English was corrected by Arnold Schwareneger (sp?)' and that people say he 'saunters but in Texas it is called walking'.
He has imporved his public speaking skills ALOT in the last 4 years thats for sure.

we turned it off when he tried comparing the soldiers in Iraq (maybe it was Afghanistan... he didn't specify) to those in Normandy! Don't even go there George!!!

I agree...4 more years...
I also think that Kerry and Edwards touch each other and gaze at each other a little to much
I may have voted Kerry, but he just seems like a big wimp to me. JMO!

I thought his speech was great. I like that he laid out a plan and was firm on his stance on the war on terror.

I agree! And marymoon, I agree with you too - unless Kerry does something similar VERY soon, he's losing extremely important swing voters. Actually, my mom was undecided and I called her after the speech and she's back on the bandwagon.
I'm voting for him for many different reasons but in the end, the most important boils down to what he pointed out in his speech:
In the last four years -- in the last four years, you and I have come to know each other. Even when we don't agree, at least you know what I believe and where I stand.

I watched most of it and I thought it was great. I especially liked when he was saying how most politicians will keep the promise of raising taxes. Showed a little humor. Also when he was going off in a roundabout way about Kerry's comments concerning our allies. Very powerful.

I really liked his speach, he kept me interrested, and made me laugh.
I don't agree with everything he says, but I do agree with most. He is just a better candidate for the job, and that's what this country needs right now.

Re: What did you think of Bush's speech?
His speech made me want to vote for Kerry even more than I already do.
I like GW as a person, but I don't believe in him as a president

Um do you know anybody currently in Iraq??? Because really it is worse than the news. I understand and think the Normandy was worse but I do think there is basis for comparisson. They don't show the half of it in the news, thats all I can tell you. I don't mean to start a fight but my FH is a Marine in Iraq now and the stories he tells me are horrific. It doesn't happen all in one devestating event, such as the Normandy, it happens slowly on a daily basis.
My FH just lost one of his best friends in one such attack. Those men and women deserve all the recognition they get and should all be honored. I don't know exactly what he said b/c I feel asleep but the comparrison is very possible.

I agree. Bush was comparing the bravery of our current soldiers to the ones in Normandy, and I can't believe someone would think our armed forces today are any less brave than those in WWII.

He wasn't comparing bravery. He was *complimenting* it. He sent these guys to Iraq on what even thought was a questionable act. I am sure he only has but great thanks to the armed forces.
His speech was a little boring though in the end. All the news reporters did think it was a little long.
But i'll tell you one thing. Right after the DNC... this board was 90% for Kerry. Now that we all heard Bush... its interesting on how we have a total mood swing. I am seeing about 60% bush now on these boards. Maybe we should do an updated poll.

I liked it. He's a regular type of guy and I relate to that. Little bit of a goof-ball.
Unlike Kerry.. who's very voice irritates me.
If only I could feel as confident in Bush domestically as I do in foreign policy.. If this was the case, Kerry would have no chance.
I feel safer with Bush in office
Terrorism/economics are the hot button issues for me this year.
